So let me get this straight. You currently have your panties in a bunch because of a possible scenario that might have happened, but is now guaranteed to not happen?

I try to remain one minded seeing I have some far fetched discussions also, but I really don't see your point.
Kesler demanded a trade and screwed us on his exit ,and I think Benning did a great job of getting the best offer available for a toxic situation. |

Earlier I did say doing nothing to this team, even Gillis could have done that....
I was clearly taking a shot at both the current and FORMER GM.
But of course you can't process the meaning of that . I'm sorry. |

Shiky, Jensen, corrado, bonino, McCain, vertanen, Russian Chara, horvat, foxy goalie drafted. We need some more defence for next years draft, but then again it's always the defence men drafted in the later rounds that play in the nhl. |

I don't but that as an excuse, there must be players with better skill levels than these 2 that they could have taken a shot on. There is every year. At least if those types of players don't pan out, you can feel better knowing that they had the upside to do so.
Again, everyone seems cool with the higher picks(obviously more important) so no biggie. - Nucker101
You don't build with strickly skill guys, about all I can say to that, if 3rd and 4th line guys were so easy to come by we'd have had a better bottom six over the past three years.
I understand what you're saying, and I somewhat agree, but I don't know who was out there for the taking in the "extremely skilled" department.
Benning apears to be making a team that can compete in the playoffs (future) - when the Bruins won the Cup in 2011 they had one 30 goal guy (Lucic) and three 20 goal guys, not to mention a great bottom six.
LA won the Cup this year with two 20 goal scorers, no 30 goal guys!! Williams won the Conn Smythe with a 19 goal season. I love skilled guys, Bure being my all-time favourite, but we need to build a team....I like what they're doing. |

Hey, Don't get me wrong, I think Benning did a marvelous job in terms of pulling off the trade considering the circumstances. I mean it.
Just the point that I'm making is that it was FORCED on him, therefore, perhaps today's discussion would be somewhat different had Kesler NOT wanted out of here.
You can look good doing something that's forced on you (Benning yesterday), or you can look good doing something that you want to actually do. |

Your point is pointless really. No one can know 100% what would have happened under different circumstances, so who the hell cares. It's like arguing for the sake of arguing.

Yeah, but Benning didn't want to trade Kesler to being with. That's my point. By doing so, Benning has done the team and himself a whole lot of good. Yet after the trade, Benning was all upset saying that if it were up to me (Benning), Kesler would still be here. I'll take him at his word. |

Again, look at the junior numbers of most of the non-goon NHL regulars around the league. Even our own roster. |

You could be right, but he's gone so no point in speculating. Didn't you say that this team was gonna keep all of the core and try to sign a UFA? 2 core players gone so it seems like you're wrong. And according to a poster with supposed "sources" another Canuck players was also asked to waive besides Garisson and it wasn't Edler. Has to be one of Hamhuis, Bieksa or Burrows...my guess is Burrows.
You were wrong. - Nucker101

watch and or listen to Benning's interviews over the past few weeks. None more telling than yesterday's where post-trade he couldn't have been any clearer:
"We'd like to keep him, but his mind was made up"
