At this point, I'd pull the trigger. Unfortunately, the reason were shopping him is that we're nowhere close on negotiations. He probably wants a decent raise which he most certainly doesn't deserve...yet. Vinny can't hurt us cap wise - Vegas Trotzkies
yea but we have a potential offer of upshall for vinny if del zotto can't be signed we need something else |

Do you think I have any shot in hell to actually get an email read that suggests having a day where people cram into that stadium just to chant GINO GINO GINO for minutes on end, tape it, and send it to him?
EDIT: Maybe Bill or EK or someone more important than me could try to get in touch with someone in the Canucks organization? |

That Neal deal sill makes little sense to me. And from both sides.
I went into the draft fully expecting Neal to be traded. But for cap relief to keep Niskanen. Nothing against Hornqvist, but wouldn't you rather trade Neal for a pick in the top 10 and draft a strong prospect plus keep one of your best D men? And on the Preds side I think it's a lateral move and nothing better until they get themselves a legit center. Neal isn't coming close to those numbers he put up with Malkin with what they've got in Nashville. If the Preds made this move under the assumption they were getting Spezza it could really end up back firing for them. They have a terrible offense and Hornqvist was the one guy who actually put up numbers for them. Wouldn't you want to keep him to build around? |

Hornqvist was a net presence in a Trotz system. You can't build around him. Our offense was terrible because our first line, aka him, failed to convert in the majority of chances they had. If he had Neal's skill, he would have been a 35 goal scorer every year. |

As bad as it is, I'd rather have Vinny at his contract(4.5ish?) than Del Zotto at 3.5 or whatever he wants. |

There's all this talk about Spezza getting traded and rightfully so, but what about Bobby Ryan? His name hasn't come up at all and I'm not sure why. He's an UFA at the end of the season just like Spezza and he's certainly not going to re-sign in Ottawa. The Sens are going to have to get something back for Spezza and Ryan, or else they'll walk for nothing. I think if the offer is right, they'll trade Ryan long before the trade deadline. The Flyers should make him target number one in my opinion. How about a line of Ryan-Giroux-Simmonds? Sounds good to me. And he's more likely to re-sign in Philly before anywhere else. |

Upshall >>>> MDZ.
Getting nothing for VL isn't worth it this year. It sounds like the flyers will still be able to barely be under the cap if they stay put and sign a cheap back up. The flyers aren't going to sign any FA this year that make a huge impact that won't be available next year. Role with VL on 2nd line again and reevaluate the team at Xmas or trade deadline. At this time next year the flyers will have a better view on the future. As of today are prospects outside of Laughton have a lot of question marks. Hagg and ghost will be playing NA pro hockey, cousins should get more slack, straka should get a call up at some point, and it's make or break time for alt, Akeson, and McGinn.
With that being said I still think the flyers will still be able to be competitive with the current line up. We have a great crop of young nhl starters and great goaltending. Plus this is the first training camp with burube

Who is bobby ryan? is he a good player?
In all seriousness Ryan has stated numerous times how much he likes it there. To say he flat out isn't re-signing there at this point is completely unfounded, unless you mean Spezza?
FWIW I think the Sens will throw insane money at Ryan. Spezza will be gone and they cant afford to lose Ryan after that. |

Hi Ek...I'm a pretty regular poster over on Bill's Flyer threads...I just wanted to run an idea I had by you.
I'm a college kid. No one knows who I am. So if I try to contact the Canucks' organization, it has a whopping 0.001% of actually working/being acknowledged.
In reading up about the recent and tragic news of Gino's illness, I came across this quote, said by Gino himself:
"In my heart, I will always be a Canuck and I have always had a special relationship here with the fans,” he wrote. “Your ‘Gino, Gino’ cheers were my favorite. I wish I could hear them again. You have been amazing."
I don't think there's anything that should get in the way of having 50000 Canuck fans all don their jerseys- bonus points for ones that read Odjick on the back- pack into the Rogers Arena and chant "GINO GINO GINO" for 5 minutes, have it video taped, and sent to Gino for him to hear, like he wishes.
I figure you're the one that could at least speak to someone in the organization about that, and maybe get the ball rolling, or plant that idea somewhere.
Let me know if you're in or if you have any other ideas on getting the idea up the chain of command. Even if it's a I tell you, you tell someone, he tells someone etc sort of deal. Anything works.
Let me know.

It's hard to say that though because Neal put up those numbers with Malkin. Especially since he relies much more on being fed the puck than creating the play himself. If you think he's putting up 35 goals with the Preds current top 6 he's going to disappoint. |

It won't matter how much they throw at him. If he wouldn't re-sign in Anahiem, he won't re-sign in Ottawa. Have you seen the tour of his room at his parents house? It's still decked out in old Flyers stuff. I honestly think he's going to be a Flyer by this time next year at the latest. |

My point was more that Hornqvist should have had at least 10 more goals per year. Guys like him and Wilson failed to convert most of the time. Our offense generated chances, given not as many as penguins, but we were near the bottom third in goals more so due to failure to convert on those chances. In my opinion, a player with Neal's skill increases the odds to convert on said chances. And yes, if Neals plays 80 games with us, he'll be close to 30-35 goals |

Well he doesn't still live with his parents so lets hold off on backing the truck up just yet.
And Anahiem treated him like crap. To the best of my knowledge Ottawa has not. Let's see how it plays out. IMO I suspect he won't reach free agency. |

only 21 goalies taken in the entire draft. 6 americans, 4 canadians, 3 russians, 3 swedes, 2 finns, 1 slovak, 1 czech, and 1 latvian. interesting. usa goaltending clearly on the rise. |

Oh yea I know. He's not a sure thing to come to Philly, but if I had to put my money on a team, it he the Flyers. Of course he said he loves playing in Ottawa. What's he gonna say he doesn't? It's called being professional. And if he doesn't get traded in the summer and Spezza leaves, you think he's going to sign with a non-playoff team when he's heading to free agency? I seriously doubt it. Plus there's a lot of other teams that would offer him just as much money that are competitive every year. I'd say the chances he re-signs in Ottawa are slim to none. But I could be wrong. It's just my personal opinion. |

I won't be surprised if the Flyers make a play for Ryan in Free Agency. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Money talks. And I wouldn't hang it on how his childhood bedroom is decorated when he lived in the area as a kid. Really nothing to do with anything.
