He wasn't a rookie. Ryan was a rookie with no NHL experience and scored 30 goals in 61 games.

Ryan is a bigger need than Schenn.

- archion113

Missed the point. Every player develops at their own pace. Nobody is arguing that Ryan hasn't been a better player then Schenn has to this point.

Who doesn't need a player like B. Ryan?

Schenn put up 41 points and he gets praise. Ryan puts up 30 goals a year and gets poop on.

- archion113

Schenn is much younger and costs much less. Ryan had 48 points and Schenn had 41 if you want to just use that as a way to compare.

I'm sure people here are going to want to hear this, but Homer's gone on record saying that they don't NEED to move Vinnie this year.
http://www.delcotimes.com...-why-lecavalier-cant-stay

Obviously it stops them from making any more real moves and would have to be hedging on Pronger LTIR to make it work.

This could be of course just trying to ignite the market and sell the player, but I gotta believe that they won't be paying some other team to take on the contract of a guy who scored 20 goals despite playing on the 4th line.

Personally, if they can't make a trade work that doesn't screw us up for the next 4 years paying Vinnie to play against us, I'd preach patience too.

- flyler

no we dont' need to move vinny and i don't think we should but if the right deal comes up so be it

He's a RW. If they were able to move some salary, I would consider it. If they're cap crunched like this offseason, it just might not work.

I bet Ryan gets a massive deal. I think he'd choose the Flyers if they matched the highest offer. I don't think they'll get some discount.

He's the type of player where production, often, hasn't matched ability. He has the skill to be a consistent 70 point scorer every year.

- PhillySportsGuy

He also seems to be regressing as a player.

337 points in 448 points.

I think most of people's hatred for Ryan comes strictly from the fact that others love him and root for him to come to the Flyers because he's a Flyer fan.

I would agree with this. He's never offered much other than scoring too. He's not a strong defensive player. He's never been a very good PP player either.

I think he's very similar to JVR in a lot of respects.

Who has said that they hate Ryan? And I doubt those are valid reasons for why anyone would.

You could. Ryan was playing on a new team with new players and had a poor year. His poor year still being 20+ goals.

If you actually think Schenn is any shape or form a better player, than the discussion is already moot because you're insane.

He's been a good scorer in the League, but his overall game leaves a lot to be desired. I think he's a good player, but overrated by many.

Schenns not a better player right now. He has the potential to be better than Ryan though.

Explain. How do you over value a player who has scored 30 goals in 4 seasons and 20 in another and is 27 years old.

It's a poor comparison as has already been stated. Ryan is a better player but it is also much further along in development. Ryan is 27, Schenn is what, 22? Who is going to be the better player in a year or two is the question. And why is Schenn being compared anyway? It's not an either or situation.

Because there is more to the game then that. His play away from the puck has always been a question mark.

The hatred for Philly? It smells. People are loud. Roads suck. Gets cold in the winter. Taxes are freaking ridiculous.

And I've never been a fan of Philly women.

The situation is whatever we deem it to be. Ryan is a better player today. Was a better player at 22. Will be a better player tomorrow.

You're paying him for the future though. He's a one dimensional player. What happens when he signs a 6 year deal and loses his ability to score at a 30 goal pace? He becomes VL.

Thoughts on the weekend:

-Really happy with Flyers draft overall. Sanheim looks like a really good pick-size and skating are definitely there and he seems like an intelligent kid. Aube-Kubel has blazing speed and is a very agile skater. Friedman is another good value pick in the third round-most of the stuff I read on him says the only question is size. Even the later rounds brought in skilled guys who can skate well-or are working on getting better. There were no Garrett Klotzes or reaches of questionable value. That in and of itself was a breath of fresh air.

-The rumor about the top pick seems to be genuine. As good as Ekblad looks-and as nice as it would be to see Lecavalier's entire deal picked up by Florida-the Flyers simply couldn't surrender their entire second scoring line from last season for him and Gudbranson.

-I really enjoyed how Gary Bettman handled the boos. He made a "bring it on gesture", cupped his hand to his ear and played the role to the hilt. Especially when, after he was cheered for announcing the Flyers' pick, he got booed again for Minnesota's. He heard the boos starting, went to the mic and said, "i thought we had an understanding!" He was like a mini-Vince McMahon.

-The Pens got slammed for the Neal trade, and it is a downgrade, but Hornqvist is hardly a bad player. put him with Malkin or Crosby and he could score 30. The worst deal was the Leafs trading for Roman Polak. Gunnarsson is a solid defenseman, despite hip woes over the past couple of years. Polak is little more than Douglas Murray.

-I wish the Flyers took advantage of the trend of good teams trading "energy players" & "agitators" for 3rd rounders. Chicago and the Rangers cleared cap room and got solid assets for Dorsett & Bollig.

-OB18 & I got to take a photo with Bill Daly. Security must be very lax for somebody like me to get near the number two man in the NHL
