Ryan played LW almost exclusively in Anaheim. Hes a righty but can play both sides. - moylander
If I can get a great deal for him, I'd grab him, but at $6M for 7 years, I'll steer clear |

Because it's hype and it's manufactured. As if Bobby Ryan sits around and just dreams of being a Flyer. As if when he hits free agency, money won't do the talking because he'll want to live out his boyhood fantasy of being a Flyer. If he even hits free agency. Most kids grow up rooting for a local team, and idolizing players for that team. What's makes Bobby Ryan different from any other kid that has him so destined to be a Flyer? LOL
You call me out for knowing what is and isn't important to Bobby Ryan. Why doesn't that apply to you? How do you know what's important to him and what isn't? Circumstantial BS? I'm not saying it can't or won't happen. But if it does, it's not because he grew up in the area and he's a huge fan. Ask any NHL player I bet they grew up passionately rooting for a team and certain players. Does that guide where they play, or sign as a Free Agent? - MJL
because your posts nearly always have the tone of absolute knowledge while others, including myself, often include words like "maybe". perhaps" "in my opinion"....try it sometime |

From what I've seen, he might be the most NHL ready pick. If he can be ruined, the Leafs are the team that can do it. - Jsaquella
He'll be the best prospect in hockey and a complete bust within the next 365 days. |

Wouldn't you rather spend the money on a defenseman though? - PhillySportsGuy
Sure, but the cap isn't much of an issue as long as they can move players. But I also realize Giroux isn't going to last forever and I want him given the chance to be the best player he can be by giving him players that can play with him.
The Flyers have some tough choices to make at some point. If Schenn and Coots both progress in development, they may reach a point in which they can't keep both.

Am I the only one who is worried about the cap situation? If Vinny doesn't get traded we are over the cap without a full roster. We need a backup goalie and a winger to fill the lineup and buying out Vinny is not an option as it Franks us hard next season when the cap penalty jumps to 3 mill for the next two seasons, while Schenn and Voracek also come up for resigning. The only solution I see is to destroy the blueline..... - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Concerned, but not excessively worried.
They can juggle things and squeeze under and then get the relief from Pronger after the season starts. |

I view a teams strength based more on depth. I would rather have 4 strong lines than 1 great top line. If Schenn and Coots develop, I don't see why we wouldn't keep them. |

Yeah, you're right...that was the line. He was brilliant.
The rumor I got from a couple of media types I managed to chat with was that Florida wanted Schenn, Lecavalier & Simmonds for the top pick & Gudbranson and would eat the entirety of Vinny's deal. - Jsaquella
Just too much. Switch out simmons for Umberger, LOL. |

If it was Simmonds or Schenn instead of both, I'd lean towards doing it. |

They could. But in the cap era spending $$ in one place takes $$ away from another.
The important thing for the Flyers is to find ways to get players on ELC or 2 way contracts that can play for a few year before getting a bigger deal to help relieve our cap issues.
Schenn's already making, and already made, more money than he should have been. He'll most certainly be asking for 4.5-5.0m after this contract.
Meh who knows.. all speculation really on our parts.
I for one will love the day the Flyers sign Ryan (If they sign him). |

Same. You have to give to get. Can't get good players without giving up something.
Always hate when someone says "We should trade for Player 1" and the other person says "But that will open up holes somewhere else". Like once the deal is done, the hole will never be filled.

I would try either "CAP EMERGENCY - PLEASE READ MY HOCKEYBUZZ POST"
or
"MJL - FACT OR FICTION?" |

Damn, if they were that close to trading for Ekblad and willing to give up major pieces off the roster to accomplish this, I have to believe Hexy is going after other premier d-men. Bogo? Josi? |

Dejan Kovacevic, Pittsburgh's answer to Sam Carchidi:
But the change will be cultural, too. And there will be no exceptions, not even Crosby and Malkin. When I asked the people at that table, for example, if Hornqvist could play with Malkin, the unanimous -- and strikingly passionate -- response was that Crosby and Malkin both need to do more to improve their linemates rather than vice versa.
Man, was that refreshing to hear.
Yeah, Crosby, the guy that carried a second line talent (Chris Kunitz) to being a member of the Canadian Olympic team and turned Pascal Dupuis into a first line winger has to do more to make his wingers better.

Crosby's m.o. is making his wingers look $3 million better than they actually are

I liked the draft. Particularly the 2nd and 5th round picks even though I have no clue who they are. Just have a good feeling about them.
And like someone else said. No klotz, goulbournes, etc. And no centers
And I love what Hexy said at the end of an interview I saw. He said he was banging his fist on the table, "we have to hit on some late round picks" love it |

Aube-Kubel was a center
I talked to Russ Cohen of NHL prospects radio, he feels Aube-Kubel is far better suited to the wing, though. |
