Aube-Kubel was a center
I talked to Russ Cohen of NHL prospects radio, he feels Aube-Kubel is far better suited to the wing, though. - Jsaquella
The Russian was a center in the 6th round too actually. Aube-Kabel sounds like a dumb name. But his nickname if he ever makes it will be AK(jersey#). In fact he should just choose 47 |

Thoughts on the weekend:
-Really happy with Flyers draft overall. Sanheim looks like a really good pick-size and skating are definitely there and he seems like an intelligent kid. Aube-Kubel has blazing speed and is a very agile skater. Friedman is another good value pick in the third round-most of the stuff I read on him says the only question is size. Even the later rounds brought in skilled guys who can skate well-or are working on getting better. There were no Garrett Klotzes or reaches of questionable value. That in and of itself was a breath of fresh air.
-The rumor about the top pick seems to be genuine. As good as Ekblad looks-and as nice as it would be to see Lecavalier's entire deal picked up by Florida-the Flyers simply couldn't surrender their entire second scoring line from last season for him and Gudbranson.
-I really enjoyed how Gary Bettman handled the boos. He made a "bring it on gesture", cupped his hand to his ear and played the role to the hilt. Especially when, after he was cheered for announcing the Flyers' pick, he got booed again for Minnesota's. He heard the boos starting, went to the mic and said, "i thought we had an understanding!" He was like a mini-Vince McMahon.
-The Pens got slammed for the Neal trade, and it is a downgrade, but Hornqvist is hardly a bad player. put him with Malkin or Crosby and he could score 30. The worst deal was the Leafs trading for Roman Polak. Gunnarsson is a solid defenseman, despite hip woes over the past couple of years. Polak is little more than Douglas Murray.
-I wish the Flyers took advantage of the trend of good teams trading "energy players" & "agitators" for 3rd rounders. Chicago and the Rangers cleared cap room and got solid assets for Dorsett & Bollig.
-OB18 & I got to take a photo with Bill Daly. Security must be very lax for somebody like me to get near the number two man in the NHL - Jsaquella
Agreed, My favorite part was when the Pens came to the podium and Tocchet went up, got one cheer and an Avalanche of boos. Turns to Rutherford and says, "I told you it would'nt work, Jimmy". I could not stop laughing.

Not a single one. Stan Bowman joked about it when the Hawks made their last pick, saying "This is the second time we've come to Philadelphia and had a blast" and the Pens' guy stole Homer's joke from the Pittsburgh draft about the warm reception the team received from the fans. |

It's really a bad deal. Polak has been regressing for some time now and he's not likely to get better or really help the Leafs with their issue of getting heavily outshot at ES on a regular basis. - Jsaquella
God I wish Grossmann was RH... would have loved to swap him for a RSA Gunnarsson and a pick, |

Maybe we could re-sign Kurtis Foster, since right-handedness seems to be the only litmus test. |

The hatred for Philly? It smells. People are loud. Roads suck. Gets cold in the winter. Taxes are freaking ridiculous.
And I've never been a fan of Philly women. - archion113

Ryan played LW almost exclusively in Anaheim. Hes a righty but can play both sides. - moylander
Simmonds moving to the Left is a reach but you are correct Ryan played the Left with Getzlaf and Perry almost exclusively as you pointed out. With Ryan being the wing with better hands and shot, you can trust him on either side over Simmonds. |

If I can get a great deal for him, I'd grab him, but at $6M for 7 years, I'll steer clear - PhillySportsGuy
I would take Ryan but as he gets further into his late 20's I'm becoming more less impressed with him. We could use him, may even get him this summer but guys like Kane and JvR seem more tempting. JvR for example, fans were down on him before and as he was being traded, maybe even now but three seasons doesn't define a player's young career. It certainly doesn't define Brayden Schenn right now. I'm willing to bet JvR reaches 40 at least once in his career. If Hartnell can come close and James Neal can do it, why not JvR? With the right compliment I think Ryan could still do it. What bothers me about Ryan is more of a finisher then a disher. At least JvR can set up plays as well. |
