Time will tell.
I will miss Nisk even if his numbers were up b/c e played against weaker opponents... at least he capitalized on it and certainly played well with Maatta. I can live with Orpik leaving. Scud's contract gone is a dream. - penguins-4-life
Agreed .. Think jr hopes scuds rebounds like Martin did .. Move him high rather then low' |

Yeah that isn't going to happen. Paul Martin's puck skills are on a different planet than what Scuderi's are. |

I'm just catching up on some stuff, but I like the trade. Hornqvist is a welcome addition, both on and off the ice.
Not sure about Spalding, but I've read some good stuff about him in the room.
While Hornqvist will help on the ice, let's be honest, this trade is as much about the locker room and team culture as it is about the on ice play.
And while Neal's regular season goals were nice, let's not pretend that he was any sort of solution to our playoff woes. |

I don't get the bemoaning that there "had to be a better deal out there" or saying that Rutherford Could have gotten more.
If there was a better deal, don't you think Rutherford would have made it?
It's funny, most people on this board have been sh!tting on Neal for the better part of the last 2 years, and now you're pissed that we didn't get more for him? |

he has no choice but to say that he thinks scuds rebounds... cause aint nobody taking him without salary retention. He wont do a paul martin... but maybe a mark eaton? best hope is he rebounds to a legit bottom pairing player... a very expensive bottom pairing guy |

To be honest Eaton was horrifically bad too, even worse than Scuderi.

Nashville board reminded me of how much Neal produced when Sid and Geno were out. One goal in 24 games when he first arrived and everytime Geno was injured Neal went MIA.
Let's stop pretending we just traded Brett Hull. "Oh noes our 40 goal scorer is gone, what will we dooo!!!" Puuhhllease.
Anyone bashing PH is just a lunatic. He scores from the doorstep, that is exactly what this team needs. Dirty chippy goals.

Nealer couldn't create much on his own, that's true. I've come around big time on Hornqvist himself, and I like the fact that JR went out and got the sort of player we need more of. It just seems like a waste to have not received a high pick or prospect, rather than a dime a dozen bottom 6er. PPG 35+ goal scorers players should get big returns, regardless of context. |

You are talking about a GM that has made some truly poopty decisions over the last seven years or so, so ...

I remember the last few deadlines I wanted the pens to make a pitch for hornqvist. I'm psyched he's with the team now. Hopefully Spaling adds something to the bottom 6, I mean he can't be worse than Adams, glass or pyatt. He had 30 pts in a bottom 6 role on a crummy offensive Nashville team.
Id like to see the pens trade sutter and go after Benoit Pouliot, especially if sutter is asking for 4 mil/season. Actually kind of wished they would trade him for buffalos 2nd rounder+ and picked up Lemieux |

I agree.
I will bet anything that Neal doesn't sniff 40 goals this season. He'll finish with around 25.
Neal is a shooter. He's not a pure goal scorer who can create chances on his own and now he won't have Malkin to create all his chances.
With Hornqvist I guarentee the PP improves. Crosby can move back to where he is most effective. Malkin and Letang on the points. Kunitz and Hornqvist near the net and Crosby running the show off his one timer side hash marks. |

I disagree. You are thinking of old Nashville, not new Nashville under Laviolette. They are going to find a good Center to play with Neal and I bet he still produces a good bit. Look at the effort they have put in to get Spezza. Ottawa said they were ready to accept Nashville's offer, but Spezza wouldn't waive to go there. I think if they can add another good winger they might be able to make him change his mind. I'm just saying it looks like Nashville is headed in a different direction now that Trotz is gone and I bet Neal is not the only piece of that. |

He was a 27 goal scorer with Brad Richards playing his best. He'll be a 27 goal scorer with Jason Spezza. Malkin is the reason he scored 40.
I stand by my comment. He won't come close to 40. |

Agreed. He may get above 30 with Power Play time, but his inability to create for himself is maddening. The guy should be able to bull his way to the net...he just doesn't have that mentality. |

In Lebrun's daily rumblings article yesterday there is a quote from Sens GM Bryan Murray stated the offer he was ready to accept from Nashville was Hornqvist and Spaling, Spezza nixed the trade so Poile moved to Neal. So those complaining on the return, particularly the guy who had the ridiculous quote of " no ones ever tried to trade for these guys before" another GM was willing to trade his star player for the same package, and yes I know Neal's contract is cheaper and longer than Spezza's but the fact that Spezza is a true #1 centre holds a ton of value too.

i wouldnt have cared if we traded neal for nothin. those dirty plays kill a teams mentality. not to mention the really bad penalties at really bad times. it always seemed like neal would do something stupid at the worst times. and watching him play, he really doesnt have much skill. he has a great quick release, but he needs someone to feed him those perfect passes.
so since we got hornquist i like this trade.
i do think the pens will do something else significant over the next couple days. i really hope it involves fluery.

Neal could score 50 next year and I wont care one bit. Good riddance. I expect our new players to be more effective come playoff time.
The focus needs to be on playoff type players not trying to secure another meaningless Metro Division Championship.
I think JR could have bled the Preds for a 2nd round pick. Other than that, I like this trade.
Really, they had no other option to reshape the club.
The things I am reading on Spalling give me more hope. I think PH will thrive here. Go to the net and make space for 87 and 71 to do their thing.
People on this board were complaining that no one goes to the net. We have that guy now. |

I only worry about Geno. Him and Neal seemed to be so close. Well it's part of the game and he will have to get used to it.

hornquist is a giving. we know what he brings.
spaling is obviously the question mark here. time will tell if he is an improvement to our bottom 6. but that shouldnt be too hard, im pretty sure i would be an improvement to our bottom 6.
the other big question is what else are the pens going to do this off season. this cannot be the only trade we make, and think its going to lead to completely different results.
i hope what ever happens involves fluery. and a good winger or 2 for geno. i also hope to retain stepniak

Geno will be ok he has 9.5 million reasons to be. They'll get kulemin to make him happy. I hope hornqvist plays with sid. I don't see Bennett as a good fit with sid i think he'd be better with geno |
