Well he's better than Westgarth....
I don't mind it. At least they'll be tough. - The-O-G
it's funny that oiler fans are making fun of you.
a team that was supposed to be far worse than us and earlier in a rebuild ended up ahead of us.
I think being able to move the puck from the backend with two quality guys was huge. but its no coincidence how different our approach to losing is than yours
you were bigger, tougher, more tenacious on the puck and way less fun to play against. far less talented, but far more committed to an unpleasant style of hockey.
in fact, that last 3rd of the season id say Calgary was anything but a lottery team. solid wins on a semi regular basis against san jose and LA. two teams we couldn't touch with a ten foot pole. |

Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
Arcobello - Gagner - Perron
Yakupov - Draisaitl - Joensuu
Hendricks - Gordon - Gazdic

unless nuge and yaks turn into bonafide stars.. that's a surefire lottery forward corp |

Our forward core is better than our dcore, and probably won't be what sinks us. |

Oh okay I gotcha. I think we need two or three forwards still. One stop gap 2C and two 2-way top nine forwards.
Richards
Grabovski
Stastny
(maybe) ribero would all fill the center role. I think Grabbo is the best option.
Ollie jokinen (3c though)
As for wingers.
Poliout
Kulemin
Penner
J.Jokinen
Downie
Mayson Raymond.
I think the options are there. Easier said than done, but I believe we can be a decent team if we get a little lucky July 1st

marginally better. i think that forward corp would absolutely be an instrumental part of sinking us.
a top pairing dman is our biggest need by a country mile.
but our forwards got off way too easy by many oiler fans imo.
sustained pressure in our zone for minute after minute. our defence struggling and clearly not good enough. while our forwards were nearly not committed enough and a continuous loss of battles.
then finally we'd get it out and gain their zone, get angled to the boards, lose the battle and within seconds lose the puck.....and back to our end for a few minutes!!! |

Love this move by the Oilers. This kid will be outstanding.
Time for Mac T to pony up for Staal now that he's available. Lots of chips to play with. - therealagent

Probably take one of the big boys to get Eric from Carolina because others will pony up to get him. |

Unless Boston trades Seidenberg I see Boychuk as the person they are trying to trade. They want to sign Iggy and they have dmen to spare. Boychuk is the only one they can part with that has a contract that would make any difference to them cap wise. Unless they are parting with a big name up front, Boychuk is on the table. I don't think he is our answer though. Not long term. - Hall Fan
I agree that among D that Boychuk's salary gives some relief cap-wise, but would they get rid of him at age 30? Chara is getting long in the tooth and was not as effective as he was, but he's got a few years left on his deal. Sidenberg isn't the stud that Boychuk is and is 3 years older, so I think he might be more available, though that doesn't save much cap room.
Do the B's really want to re-up Iggy at the price he'll want? Iggy is slower now too and the Bruins need to get faster to compete for the Cup. If we can get Boychuk for say a prospect and a 3rd/4th rounder, he'd be a top D for us for a few years, so i'd like that. |

I think it's just because the fixes to the forward core are either simple additions that push Joensuu/Gazdic out of the lineup, or the natural progression of youth.
With defense, you've got a bit of youngsters growing, but also there's severe limitations in terms of talent. You can see where Nuge or Yak is headed in a way that maybe you can't with Schultz.
and it won't solve all the problems to get Gagner off of wing and have him and Yak feast on easier matchups, but it's a start. |

Wouldn't mind trying to steal Frolik from Winnipeg as well. He'd be a solid addition. |

Absolutely. We're far too soft on the puck and play along the outside whenever we do get possession. We need solid vet wingers to lead our forwards. Lack of a forecheck and backcheck has put undue pressure on our D-corps the last few years. |

I think this is left out of the conversation wayyyy tooo much. so much blame is placed on the defence.
our defence is clearly overwhelmed by these relentless, behemoth forecheckers, but our offence does nothing to prevent this. or even give them a break at the offensive end with a forecheck of our own..
for huge chunks of the season our attack was totally effed. we flat out couldn't dump the puck, because we'd lose the puck/board battle before it started. or if we carried it in, wed get angled low and kept to the outside, and then lose the battle.
a second line of gagner and arcobello inspires zero confidence that anything will be different this upcoming year. |
