@RomulusNotNuma: Oilers final pick coming up at 183.
With any luck they'll take Tkachev, Watson or Kulda.
Probably take another overager from a poop league.

So true

I think this is left out of the conversation wayyyy tooo much. so much blame is placed on the defence.

our defence is clearly overwhelmed by these relentless, behemoth forecheckers, but our offence does nothing to prevent this. or even give them a break at the offensive end with a forecheck of our own..
for huge chunks of the season our attack was totally effed. we flat out couldn't dump the puck, because we'd lose the puck/board battle before it started. or if we carried it in, wed get angled low and kept to the outside, and then lose the battle.

a second line of gagner and arcobello inspires zero confidence that anything will be different this upcoming year.

Fair point. I will say that there is hardly a conceivable forward group that would get us in the playoffs with this defensive group though.

Although you might come back and say the opposite, and you wouldn't be far off.

In terms of zone exits, I think part of it is system oriented too. It's hard to believe every oilers forward would bail out so early and leave the defensemen to try to deal with the forecheck every time.

In terms of zone entrances/cycling, it's a size and boardplay problem. No argument there.

Keven Bouchard is a backup on Val D'or, or was at least supplanted by Bibeau at the TDL. I haven't seen that much of him, but i'll have a good look this year.

I don't mind taking a goalie again. Wish we would've taken some more skill instead of those 1994 players. Not a fan of half the picks.

I enjoyed our first two picks, not sure what the gameplan is drafting a bunch of overagers though

Totally agree. We need a re-balancing of our roster and if it takes a trade or 2 to do that, then fine. There's limited help available in this year's UFA group. You've got to give quality to get quality. I love Ebs and think Yak may yet be a star, but someone has to go and I'd prefer to keep Hall & Nuge.

Not to mention that his quality of linemates isn't near where the other top 3 had

good post.

it's a systemic problem from both facets.

and you know I truly agree that a top pairing guy that can break the forecheck and get the rush started is going to be the single biggest thing that moves us forward.

but my concern is; without that, how can we possibly win when we still have these systemic problems from the forwards?
and moving forward, how do we get to that elite level with this group of forwards, even when we do have that dman (hes helped moved us beyond bottom feeder..but its gonna take more than that for our next step)

@ExtraSkater: Leon Draisaitl was involved in 92% of even strength goals he was on the ice for, most among eligible CHL players http://t.co/Z2r9s5tzuK

Leon Draisaitl draft year numbers 64 GP 38-67-105 24 PIM +7 1.64 P/G

RNH draft year numbers 69 GP 31-75-106 51 PIM +29 1.53 P/G

It's pretty similar coming from two guys playing in the same league

im always banging the drum of trading the pick and moving forward. but one cant help be amped at the tools this kid possesses. preseason cant come soon enough.

we should be looking to trade the 2015 asap for a defender

so with our glut of high picks; we've drafted two centers, two wingers and a dman

do we think that's enough, or do we need a few more years of high picks before we're set??/

Gagner + 2015 1st + gernat for staal

Klefbom + 2015 2nd + Perron + pick/prospect for bogosian + Kane (don't give a sh!t if you hate Kane). Is this enough? Seeing what Neal went for maybe it is?

Hall nuge ebs
Kane staal yak
Kulemin lander arco
Hendricks Gordon pitlick

Marincin petry
Nikitin bogo
Ference Schultz

Nurse and leon develop

If staal goes ufa leon should be ready. If we show improvements maybe he stays. To me he'd be huge for yaks development.

Hate on folks

Edit: second look, doubt the the Kane bogo trade is enough. But those are the type moves I want

no hate. at least for the first proposal.
stall's still an elite player without a doubt. it's a way to try and be far more competitive this year. which is huge after a disastrous last season.

but the worry of a guy for only two years while giving up a first is the obvious concern. still could absolutely be worth it though. even if he did walk.
