berglund might be top six on some teams, he's not a top six center in ottawa.
turris > berglund
zibanejad > berglund
hence, he's not a top six center on our team. - sensarmy_11
The first is true, but I think the second point would be a lot more controversial. |

Never said a top center he can play left wing and has great pick control and plays the boards as well as anybody - BluesandBirds89
maybe he could be a 2nd line winger.
i've never had an issue in him being involved in a spezza trade, but he can't be the best asset coming back. |

i don't think so. granted, i don't get to watch him play a lot, but if you look at his stats, they seem to have been regressing each year for the last 3-4 years. he had a career high of 52 pts, and has been regressing.....while zibby on the other hand, has been trending in the opposite direction, and at the age of 20, playing 10-15 less games than berglund (mostly on the 3rd and 4th line) on a bad team, had more goals and more pts. |

He had a bad year this year bc we brought in Derek Roy but still last year in the lockout season he managed 17 goals |

i don't think he's a bad player....i just think ottawa is better down the middle, both now and in the long term, with turris and zibby as our 1-2.
like i said, i'm not averse to bringing berglund in to play on zibby's wing, but the main piece in a spezza deal should be a better asset than berglund. |

No, I think Zibby will be better in the long run too, it's just that for this season I could easily imagine Berglund beating out Zibby for the #2 centre job... They aren't far apart in talent or productivity at this point.

i think, or at least i hope, the sens realize that they aren't going anywhere this year.....maybe an 8th place finish and 1st rd knockout, at best......so they'll give the minutes to zibby
edit - i also think that zibby will not only be better in the future, but is better right now. |

And Berglund is still only 25 maybe 26 with just a 3.7 mil cap hit for a top 6 center/forward for the next three years is nice |

Yeah, good point.
Contingent on MacLean losing his irrational hatred for Mika, but I hope you're right! |

Yeah, no, he's a respectable player without question.
I'd like him on my team, so long as we didn't have to trade Spezza for him |

man, if maclean coaches this season, like he did the last, he better get his ass fired.
if the smith/neil line EVER get more minutes than the ryan line again, i'm gonna start cheering for a new team. |

THIS
or, unless there were better assets than him coming back.
having berglund as the centerpiece to a spezza trade, would be like having the trade go the other way, and having zach smith be the centerpiece in an oshie trade....it's ridiculous. |

if the return for spezza was berglund and fabbri.......that would be disappointing.
add rattie to that, and i'm a happy camper. |

Lol Ottawa wanted Schwartz and Fabbri is and ideal match to Schwartz. 45 goals in the ohl this year. Something Ottawa could definitely look forward too in a rebuilding strategy. Say STL signs stastny, Chicago can't afford him, and Dallas hm goes another route. What does Ottawa trade him for just a1st and maybe a prospect at the deadline next year. If so it would still be a late first round pick. Obviously spezza will not be a senator after this next season and everybody knows this so I would think the price it would take to get him will drop BC Murray can't risk losing him to free agency next summer. + he's prone to injury what happens if he's gets hurt this season then you surely lose him for nothing. |

Just take into consideration what guys like Gaborik and Vanek went for at the deadline this year

Or take into consideration what Vanek went for in the offseason last year. Just saying, there are a wide range of comparables to choose from

schwartz IS a good nhl player, fabbri might be a good nhl player.........he's not a "can't miss" prospect, not even close.
as for the price....if st louis signs stastny, then colorado is another possibility for spezza, chicago can be an option as ottawa can eat cap, there's phoenix, what other route could dallas go, they can revisit a nashville trade......there will always be options.
as for moving him at the deadline, well it will be a 2015 1st, which is supposed to be one of the best drafts in a long time.....plus, he's much easier for cap strapped teams to add at the deadline.
ottawa will get a good return for him.....not great, but good. |

gaborik was traded in a season when he missed a great deal of time due to injury.....had a huge impact on his value.
vanek, well he was traded by garth snow.......he's beyond incompetent.....look what he was traded for the first time.
not saying spezza is gonna get 4 incredible assets....but it's not out of the question for a PPG center to fetch a high end prospect, and a 1st....i'd be okay with that. |

I agree that they will get a good return for him but a 1st, top 6 forward and a prospect seems steep to me

well i think the 1st is obviously off the table at this point.
if murray can get the player and prospect, but make one of them a little better then they would have been had the 1st been included......i'm okay with that.
or a roster player, good prospect, and slightly lower prospect.
i'm still hoping murray does a 1 for 1 for a good young roster player. |

also, i must say, it's nice discussing this with a blues fan who isn't a giant horses ass, and ridiculous homer. |

Renaud Lavoie @renlavoietva 2m
Patrik Berglund (STL) 2014-15 $3,700,000 2015-16 $3,700,000 2016-17 $3,700,000 Limited No Trade Clause
how hilarious would it be if he had a list of teams he couldn't be traded to, and ottawa was on it. |

I just want one, good, high potential type young player. It's the quantity for quality that I don't much care for... And a late first or 2nd doesn't have as much value as people say it does. |
