Will look like a boatload compared to what you actually end up getting when Dion gets traded. |

Benn's a better playmaker and more patient with the puck IMO. Obviously both things Virtanen can potentially improve on. The guy is a physical freak(weight and speed) by NHL draft standards though. - Nucker101
When Benn was 17 he had 42 goals 23 assists, in Jr A for our local team here in Victoria. He didn't even make the WHL until he was 18. Virtanen has as much potential as Benn. |

how can you know that when he plays three minutes a game? I don't think the organization knows what they have in him, he's never played a meaningful role. I think you're wrong. He may end up in the AHL, but it won't be because he under performed in his three minutes. - LeftCoaster
It was 7 mins!
His possession numbers sucked. 36 hits in 55 games. 10 Pims in 96 career games. I just don't see the talent or the "meat and potatoes". Didn't pass the (limited) eye test or have good statistical numbers. But that's just me of course. |

Only because they flogged the ice time to him last two weeks of the year
I will agree he's soft, but I love his wheels and think he has as much offence as Hansen. |

I like Virtanen, but I'd even be satisfied if he can even develop in a 25 goal player per season that brings it physically every night. I'd consider that a success for a 6th overall pick. |

Buying a nice bottle of scotch to celebrate! - chompsey
If it's a boy; you should buy 2 bottles and store the other one properly until his 18th birthday and let him decided what to do with it from there. Just something I think I'll do should the opportunity arise. |

Umm did you read that properly? It was a projection of what we've got in Virtanen. - LeftCoaster
Sorry, I didn't. Speed reading while binge drinking to catch up on the day. |

Yup agreed - that said, no one can convince me as of today that this kid isn't something special. His potential ceiling is very high!!! |

I'm excited about the possibilities in 2-3 years now
Horvat/Hank/Kassian
Daniel/Bonino/Virtanen
Shinkaruk/Vey/Fox
The possibilities are endless.
I don't see Burrows fitting into the long term plans here so that's why I think the second rumoured person they asked to waive is him.
I also like the look of the team when the twins are split up. It adds depth to the lines and shelters some of the younger guys. I think we'll see Daniel become a bit more of a setup guy towards the end of his career, so it makes sense to pair him with a pure goal guy like Virtanen. |

But he was a Gillis acquisition so he had to go. |

I am satisfied with the job that Linden & Benning have done so far. I would like to see it continue. From the last blog, because the Canucks have considerable cap space, I would be willing to "over pay" for a Brad Richards, or Ryan Miller, but only for one year, at least one year at a time. If Miller is your guy (he's not necessarily "my" guy) then give him $6.5 for one year. FA promised to spend the money (to me that means to the cap) for a winner. So if he's not spending to the cap, as a season ticket holder, I wouldn't be willing to pay the premium. - 1970vintage
Why would they sign a 1 year deal? Miller is gonna want a long term deal with a NTC, and he'll get it from someone |

Miller has something to prove. His playoff performance was un-spectacular. What I'm suggesting is that if the Canucks were actually interested in trying to make the playoffs, and they thought that Miller could help in this regard, that they should offer him that chance to prove he's worth a longer term deal by OVERPAYING him on a one year deal. Offer him $6.5m for one year, Lack backs him up and they get to ease Lack back into a starter role in a years time if he's ready. |

If we are signing Miller, I'd rather we sign him to a 2-3 year deal and trade Lack. Lacks going to be 26 this year, and 29 around the end of a Miller contract. His value is pretty good right now, and if we can capitalize on that to land a upgrade somewhere, id seriously like Benning to consider that.
Taking Markstoms 1 way contract into consideration, I feel this is exactly what they are discussing right now. Lack vs Miller, spending 3 mill on Goal vs Spending 6-7, etc. |

Apparently McCann was misunderstood yesterday, when he said he modelled his "game" after Ryan Kesler, he wasn't referring to hockey, he meant his "game" with the ladies, mainly his teammates wives.... |
