Michael Pachla: The Tim Murray 2014 BPA Draft Show - Michael Pachla
Might take some crap for this...
But I gotta say,
I'm NOT impressed
Passed on Barbashev, which could've been a home run... For a guy we are all gonna love, but is thought of as a 3rd line talent
Then...
We take Cornel and Karabacek, which could be considered a reach... And passed on Dougherty (who I REALLY like) and McKeown... Two 1st round talents
Idk guys...
Seems to me like the Regier-led 2013 draft was MUCH, MUCH better than this one by Murray
But maybe its just sour grapes bc he passed on some guys I really wanted
Obv time will tell
And these guys could turn out to be good
But my first reaction to this draft isn't very positive
Love we got Reinhart though |

I worked a million hours Fri n sat...
Anyone know if Vancouver offered us the same deal for #2 that Florida turned down?
Supposedly it was #6, #24 & shinkaruk?
I like Reinhart A LOT...
But I think I make that deal
I like Shinkaruk, and could've gotten Virtanen or Ehlers at 6, plus a good player at 24, or even possibly moved up a few spots from there to get whoever Murray had targeted in the mid-1st
I know...
Tough to trade out of #2, but I think 2 of the 3 guys we could've gotten from the deal have a good chance at being close to as good as Reinhart
Anyways...
Just some thoughts |

Reinhart was the player they wanted. The way Murray announced the selection, you knew he was never interested in trading it unless Reinhart wasn't there.

Would any one do connor mcdavid for Evgeni Malkin
me i say no - GERBE!!!75PTS
In a heart beat. Mcdavid could be the biggest bust of all time. You know you're getting your #1 center in malkin(who fits the age of our rebuild). Sure, mcdavid could take off, but most likely will put up the same kind of numbers as geno. Big bodied center line 1 with geno and then reinhart on two. |

I am going with McDavid . He fits in the timeline with the rest of our core . Hopefully we have a longer run . We have gone this far. By the time this group is ready to make serious cup run . How many Great years does Malkin have left? |

Ok time for Orpik, Matty M and who?
Let's trade:
- Ehrhoff for 2015 1st and a Fasching type of prospect (Tatar)
- Stewart/Stafford - most likely this years trade deadline
- Myers - only if the deal makes sense?
My thought on Myers trade was if we acquired Ekblad? So this type of trade needs to be the right fit for the Sab's moving forward. Myers needs to show up in shape, start being a leader and play physical (drop the mits once in a while).
The Lucic hit on Miller 3 years ago https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TERA-GY2K1o was Myers time to show he cares (he didn't). That play put this organization back 2-3 years not just Myers - but he was on the ice and entire organization was seen as soft.
We have a boart load of prospects in Jr's, NCAA and AHL. We have a very strong D:
Zadorov
McCabe
Pysyk
Ristolainen
Myers
We received our top line center this weekend. We need 1 more young star to go along with:
Compher
Reinhart
Fasching
Girgs
Hurley
Baptiste
Armia
Lemieux
Bailey
Carrier
Grigorenko
Larrson
Deslauriers
Etc....
Looking forward now, things are looking bright! |

Everyone's going to be disappointed with guys they "like" not being taken, but I'm going to trust people who look at these kids 24/7 for months rather than rely on mine or others extremely limited knowledge on them. |

Orpik may happen but the guy is on the wrong side of 30 and has concussion issues. Murray wants a few vets so he works in that respect, but at the most for two years. Either way I don't see him achieving much apart from filling a roster spot. Pass.
Ehrhoff for a first and top tier prospect! I doubt you even get Tatar alone back for him. Don't get me wrong I like the guy but young prospects are hard to pry away from the respective teams. I say leave Ehrhoff alone for now unless he really wants to go, which is understandable.
If anything you might get a good prospect back for Myers which I would do. Maybe a Coyle, Hertl, Schwartz type deal - even that might not get it done though, the trading partner would have to have a real need I think. |

The only problem with your plan is that the Sabres need to add at least 15 million in salary. Which means they will sign a few veterans.
And with Ted Nolan coaching he gets the most out of his teams... the Sabres will be lucky to finish the bottom 5 spots.
They might miss out on both guys!!! |

Of the RFA crop I would target Paul Statsny, Ryan Malone, Radim Vrbata, Danny Cleary...and just for funsies I would offer Teamu Selanne 5MM for 1 year and see if he takes it.
Were I Murray, I would make the focus on players that can offer one or a combination of:
1. Deep playoff experience
2. Leadership
3. Work Ethic (on and off the ice)
4. Teaching younger players in their position |

Irish, I posted yesterday about Moulson and Orpik that could be targets for us. I have no problem with getting either guy, combined with re-signing Ennis, Foligno and Conacher and that could get us to the floor. I'd move Ehrhoff before Myers.

right now, I have to trust Murry
there is a reason why a lot of teams passed on Barbashev, just like a lot of teams passed multi times on Karlsson
I think Lemieux will be the second line player we all hoped Foligno was going to be

Ryan Malone is a washed up cokehead, currently facing drug charges in Florida -you know that, right? That's the whole reason Tampa exercised a buyout on him. Not exactly the guy I want mentoring the youth on any team.
Danny Cleary and Teemu Selanne have a combined age of damn near 100. Plus Selanne would easily have gotten 5 mill from the ducks again if he wanted to play.
I do think Stastny and Vrbata would be good veteran targets, though. Lord knows Buffalo has to spend some cash this season to reach the cap.

Murray has already said spending money is not a problem We resign Ennis and Foligno , Sign a couple of free agents ( say Moulson and Ott ) and voila . We are there. What does Mcdavid have to do with this years floor ? |

Didn't know about Malone - that's too bad - he has a role in the current NHL and he did it well.
I don't really give a (frank) how old Cleary or Selanne are. You get them for the same reason you get Jagr, experience, winning and respect. |
