My guess is Murray couldn't get anything close to a good enough offer in his eyes to risk dealing with that recapture penalty. It really is a female dog.

The Sabres have no choice but to overpay a ton of mediocre to outright terrible free agents now, unless they couldn't care less about revenue sharing.

If he hits homeruns on 2 players he is going to have to pay them Kane and Toews money down the road, you cant do that if you are already being penalized $10 million

He has never been the final word. Its easy to suggest players when the boss says yes or no. Its completely different when your the boss. You took the example in the the league that worked. How about hall and Hopkins..

Murray has yet to be THE decision maker, though. That's a big part of it. It's no different than a really good offensive or defensive coordinator in football being a disaster as a head coach. It happens often, in every sport. Not saying I think Murray will be, but he's operated his entire career not being the one who's head is potentially on the chopping block. The dynamic changes greatly. He's not just scouting anymore. He's got a whole new administrative world to take care of.

Because his contract was front loaded should he retire before the contract ends Buffalo would be penalized for it. Its the recapture clause. It's the main reason he is being bought out. Another Darcy frank up.
