Murray has yet to be THE decision maker, though. That's a big part of it. It's no different than a really good offensive or defensive coordinator in football being a disaster as a head coach. It happens often, in every sport. Not saying I think Murray will be, but he's operated his entire career not being the one who's head is potentially on the chopping block. The dynamic changes greatly. He's not just scouting anymore. He's got a whole new administrative world to take care of. - buffalofan19

So the max per year is a $3 million cap hit.
To me, this seems like he's operating scared. I've always liked him as a player, and he's the only one on this roster over the past couple years I will actively root for to win a Cup. |

If my math is correct, we'll need to spend $20.5M to get to the floor. |

Unless he gets traded then the max could be $10 million |

But frankly, Tim Murray says, Christian Ehrhoff's desire to not be part of the Sabres and defenseman's inability to improve team are huge.
Sounds like there was a bit more going on other then contract! |

I would think you could trade for his rights back before he retires to avoid that, but regardless. I really hate this rule now. The league has turned a more than serviceable player from a valuable asset into a liability. |

I take that as dollars multiplied by years unless I'm reading it wrong?

Yeah I had a feeling that it might be something along those lines. Sounds like he didn't want to be here and that attitude showed in how he played. |

Operating smart. Scroll down and look at what it is if he was to get traded. Ehrhoff is not going to be part of a cup winning Sabres team by the time they would be good he would be well past prime. No reason to keep him and his miserable attitude around when they are trying to rebuild and no sense trading him with that crazy recapture penalty looming. |

What are you talking about. He has been the decision maker since the day he got hired. Metaphors aside, that's all that matters. |

So,
1st - congratulations to all those who projected Reinhart as the Sabres pick. It will be fun to watch a guy make the others on the ice better... I'm excited to watch him for next 10 years.
2nd - Ernest buyout...didn't see that coming. I agree that Murray must have a plan involving FA's to replace that contract...it's now a $22M task. So Moulson for sure, probably Ott...and must be another one coming..,maybe Letang?...not a FA but rumored to be available.
3rd - I hope he doesn't go.too crazy...we need to finish last next season to be assured of top 2 pick for McEichel. |

And he has no results to be evaluated with. He still has no track record. |

I fail to see how a team with a healthy John Tavares is going to be worse than this Sabres team. |

You can thank Darcy for that. Plus IMO I think you are over valuing Ehrhoff. He is only an asset if you can trade him which thanks to Darcy he is not. Sure it feels like they are losing a player for nothing but IMO its the smart thing to do. Even if you trade for his rights again I still believe you get hit with the penalty. |

Lots of 2 year deals for over paid average vets. They have to and have no choice really. Its ok though with players like aging vets they tend to not play many games from being banged up so the young guys will play a ton anyways. I would not be surprised to see buffalo swing for the fence on a big name for big money on a 4 year deal. So right when there contract is coming to a close with a year left the sabres will be competeing at that point. |
