If only AMac wasn't signed we would have the privilege of outbidding the league for another free agent. That always works out so well.
He'd definitely pick Philly over every other team, too, just like Suter and Parise. |

Ehrhoff is the type of FA you go after. Flyers have gotten into trouble going after 2nd/3rd pairing guys and overpaying. Guys like Suter and Ehrhoff are huge difference makers. |

Honestly, unless Ehrhoff is willing to take 2-4 years, I'm still partial to Brian Campbell (assuming they send AMac the other way). |

While I really would love to unload Vinnie's contract. If it came to buying him out. I think it would actually make better financial sense to buyout Umberger.
2014-15: $1,600,000
2015-16: $1,600,000
2016-17: $1,600,000
2017-18: $1,500,000
2018-19: $1,500,000
2019-20: $1,500,000
Versus Vinnie.
2014-15: $1,500,000
2015-16: $3,000,000
2016-17: $3,000,000
2017-18: $2,500,000
2018-19: $1,000,000
2019-20: $1,000,000
2020-21: $1,000,000
2021-22: $1,000,000
Then we still might be able to trade Vinnie's full salary off the books later. Just an extremely unfun thought... |

I'd prefer Ehrhoff. I'd go as high as 6yrs $6M if they are able to move some money.
Ideally, I'd love to move VL, Mac and Grossmann out. ($12M)
Ehrhoff and Fayne in. ($10M) |

Seriously? Wow. If we only had cap space. Sigh... - hereticpride
If the Flyers want to go after Ehrhoff, they can do so.

If I could guarantee a Stanley Cup next season, would you change the name of the Flyers to the Nicolas Cages for 1 year. Logo would change to a picture of Nicolas Cage as well. - PhillySportsGuy
YES! You don't even need to guarantee a cup! Colors have to stay orange and black tho. |

I'd like to see grossmann traded for cap relief before I see VL traded for it, if I had to choose. For what he brings to the table I'd rather see what Alt, Lauridsen, Manning, or MAB can do with an extended stay... or Gus if he is resigned.
I'd also be down with trading both VL and NG for cap space. - moylander
In my view none of those players can bring what Grossmann brings to the team right now, if ever. Gustafsson is signed to play in the KHL. MAB isn't healthy. Lauridesen and Manning are likely career AHL players. |

That depends on the role each of them are put in. I thought Carle was a solid 2/3 D-man, while I see MacD as more of a 4/5. $5m is too much money to pay for a 4/5 guy, imo - fecondo
Carle and MacDonald are very similar players. Not really sure why anyone thinks that MacDonald is a 3rd pair defenseman.

Interesting idea, could the Penguins change their name to the John Travoltas? Then they could... 'Face Off'... There'd be doves and everything, John Woo could ref. |

With all the money he's already pocketed from his deal, and all the future money coming to him through BO... if he doesn't take a real discount to go to a winning environment, I'd have to really start questioning how much he hates to lose. |

He's not a better player than Ehrhoff or Garrison (or even Gunnarsson)... each of those guys would have been made available this past week... might have been nice to have the cap-space to add them, since they fill our needs better. - Tomahawk
That's a matter of opinion. I think he's equal to all those players. And if there is a difference, there isn't much.

The "he's a 4/5 guy" stuff is what cracks me up the most, but that's about any player.
I'm still trying to figure out wtf all these numbers are. So if the Flyers don't have a number 1 guy, is Coburn de facto #1 or is he #2? Do we have two #2s? Who's our #3? How many #4's do we have?
So (frank)ing stupid.
Do we have 6 guys that can collectively defend our net well as a unit? That's all I want to know. I don't give a flying (frank) about "numbers'. According to most Grossman is a "5/6" guy, yet he plays almost 20 minutes a game. - mochoson

The Flyers have approximately $24 million committed to their top 6 defensemen next year. Geeze. Oh and Macdonald is overpaid. Severely. He's about a $3.5 mil defenseman. Overpaid by about $2 million a season. I say put Grossmann on waivers and trade Streit for Loui Eriksson. Then go from there. - TonyBazz
First of all other then for purposes of a buyout. There are no waivers in the off season. Secondly, what is the basis for saying he should be paid 3.5M?

He' s not a top two like Ehrhoff.....but I'm not sure why everyone wants to gas Macdonald.....he's fine on the back end, he's not our worst d by far....maybe slightly overpaid, but who cares....it ain't like the Vinny deal, eh!!!! |
