It was dumb. Six years from now, that recapture penalty would be nothing under the higher salary cap. - ImNoTroll
What is going to drive up the cap that much? The reason for the bigger cap jump was the TV contract the NHL signed in Canada. You do realize when the cap goes up player salary demands increase as well? A player making $5 million today will want $8 million if the cap rises that much.
$10 Million would cripple a team ready to compete for a Cup |

I understand why it was done... buyouts are only there for thus summer. He hated being here and would be a veteran in the locker room who is miserable and unmotivating for the youngsters..
But if he did say play out his contract and want to retire a year ir two early... couldnt we have just LTIR'd him and not been hit |

I think we have to stop valuing Myers on his potential and start valuing him on his history. This offer is the best I have heard for him and that should tell you how he is seen league wide. Not to mention, the closer zadorov, risto, and mccabe get to playing full time in the NHL the less valuable myers becomes to the sabres as well. With that said it's still important to try and find the best possible time to trade Myers. Which as it looks is what murray is doing. |

His playoff performance disagrees. He still needs another year in Roch, but he made some big strides last season. Scored some highlight reel stuff later in the year. |

This team has got to be careful. The last thing they want to do is give players tons of scratch who don't deserve it. Then all of the sudden, you've got many other Gm's mad at Murray and the Sabres for "setting the market" on 3rd and 4th line slugs, because now their players want the same amount.

He would have to be injured and it would have to be serious or then there would be some serious penalties against the Sabres. |

No , Big men take longer to develop . Hardly trading him now . His value will only go up . Murray likes him . Wants to put better talent around him . Did you watch him play after Nolan took over as coach ?

I agree. I think we are gonna get a few guys under contract
Trade for Oduya, maybe Scuderi or pick up Jovo
Sign a few minor players and resign our RFA and we should be close |

That's an incorrect assumption based solely on the fact that he's barely beginning his prime. Veterans are based on their past (and their assumed future declines), players who are not UFA eligible are based on both past present and future. |

Myers is an asset. You don't trade away an asset unless your price is met. That "offer" if garbage. An often injured Weiss a 2nd rounder pick in the 50's (or late 40's) and a 3rd liner?? Please |

If we're giving up lesser draft picks for players under contract to help other teams out, like McKenzie is hinting at, we'd better not be giving anything more than 6th and 7th round picks

the leverage that "3rd and 4th line slugs" have are what intangibles or special skills they bring. You don;t see as much of a comparison between those types of players because of that. an ott is alot different than a kanopka. |
