The difference is that's not all a #1 defenseman is supposed to do. Nobody expected Ehrhoff to be a #1, nor did the Sabres pay him to be one. The standards are different for Myers because they are supposed to be. - buffalofan19
Not saying the standards are the same but we paid Ehrhoff a load of cash to get points and when he didn't a lot of fans said it was because we sucked all the while complaining about Myers's production. You can't give one the benefit of the doubt offensively and crucify the other. |

Screw the world cup - SABRES 89
Been far more entertaining than the NHL this year. Doesn't hurt that I finally get to root for better teams. |

The Buffalo News kinda explained it with exact quotes from Murray. The buyout happened because his contract is untradable. Also, he wasn't interested in being a part of the rebuild, and his play didn't warrant the risk of the recapture. Also, we got rid of him for free this year instead of maybe buying him out regularly in the next couple of years, which would have whacked us anyway with recapture. So any way you look at it, this is the best possible move the Sabres and Ehrhoff could have made, collectively. - TheSabresTaco
His contract wasn't untradeable. It was simply that they felt they didn't get enough to compensate for the fact that they could be on the hook for a potential (but unlikely) $10 million cap hit in one season. Basically, Murray wanted other teams to compensate him for the mess the league put teams in with the retroactive recapture rule, nobody obliged, so he bought him out instead.
Like I said, I hope sooner or later, some player and agent sees through this, gets picked up on waivers, thus leaving a team in limbo anyway. Then the NHL could see how ridiculous this rule is. |

If Moulson really wanted to come back here, I wonder what he's thinking now with the Ehrhoff buyout. It's gonna take a huge sales pitch to get any UFA's to come here now. - mhp
He's got better suitors out there. Vancouver he can play with the Sedin's. Columbus play with Johansen. Hell I'd think he'd go back to the Island to play with JT before he decides to come here to play alongside Ennis as his top center. The guy is in his 30's and will want to win a cup. |

Ott and Moulson would be good role models for the younger players....only reason i don't want Ott back is cuz i want that "C" on Girgs' chest ASAP |

Ah... okay okay.. I always thought the capspace was what determines what you need to get to floor.. So with $30,419,166 of salary means we need to spend roughly 20.59 in cap space... Shoot that will be tough..
I like I said see us trading for 2 or so guys now that the floor is even bigger to get too.. Also Ennis will be wildly over paid.. - bluengold12
That would be a mistake. Give him what he's worth and that's it. Don't start doing dumb things that hurt you 5 years from now just to get to the cap floor today. Overpaying for a 32 year old for a couple seasons is one thing, but overpaying a guy for the next 5-6 is just dumb |

His offense improved this year despite the teams offense falling off a bridge - sbroads24
Ah yes. I made a Myers argument on here when the season just ended. He certainly had more ppg than the short season. I honestly think Nolan's coaching style along with Myers' new mental and physical preparations have gone a long way for him. I'm excited to see him improve more next season. |

We will get a clearer view of how this team will be built after July 1st but the only player on the sabres roster currently that will be part of the future design of the roster is Girgensons. Myers is a non factor when it comes to that future blue print and because of that it is easier to get the value you need now than later. |

It looks like we are trying to tank. Plain and simple. No free agent will come here unless grossly overpaid or way past his prime...Who knows if Muarray has the stones to make real hockey trades.... Glad the nhl is stepping to stop what teams like Buffalo are doing |

The problem is that up until last season Myers was a disaster in both ends, not just offensively. If Myers had played really well in the defensive end, he'd probably get the same "pass" Ehrhoff did. |

It really wont be difficult to do. Sign our RFAs, while bringing in four vets, and we are over 20 mil.
I am guessing Orpik is a lock to Buffalo at this point. - ImNoTroll
Let's say
Ennis get's 5.5 Million (Huge overpayment..)
Foligno gets 2 million (Another overpayment)
Ruwhidel gets 1.1 million (slight overpayment)
Conachar gets 1 million (don't think he should be resigned but..)
That's 9.6 Million
Still need 10.4 to get to cap.
Add Pysyk's contract and Reinhart's eventual contracts 1.87 more
now you have 8.53 to spend.. So
give Moulson 6 million and 1 or 2 other guys a million or so each and yeah I guess it could be done that way.. but I hope we have a bigger roster overhaul then that.

There is every reason to, He may only be 24 but hes no yougin either, the hockey world on offensive defensmen moves fast i.e mike green. You have to manage risk and value potential and the risk associated with another year of inconsistent play or injury with hurt that value. - Boxer14
Mike (frank)ing Green is a joke.
I'll take Myers every day of the week, even Funday, which is like somewhere between Sunday and Monday.
I agree that risk management is essential. Guess what the Sabres JUST did this morning?
Risk management on Ehrhoff.
Myers is no risk. He's a powerful asset that Murray was floating out there to see if anyone will pay out the ass. |

Does it look like a tank? yep... But i think the real motive behind these moves are to be able to begin building. You have to demolish before you can build. I think murray is doing it right |

Myers is streaky. Not a number 1. Its hard to judg a guy when he is playing next to Mike Weber. |

Took a first for circumventing the cap, not tanking.
Short of an illegal wire tap, the league will have no legal precedence for punishing the sabres in that regard.
Tsn did a special on the lemieux tank job, if that was okay with the league then we're in the clear. |
