If Moulson really wanted to come back here, I wonder what he's thinking now with the Ehrhoff buyout. It's gonna take a huge sales pitch to get any UFA's to come here now. - mhp
The sales pitch:
"We will pay you twice as much as any other team. Not satisfied? How about three times as much?" |

If you're a free agent, and want to come here now, winning is not your #1 priority, even before this move. It's a catch-22. You don't want that type of attitude in your locker room, but you also have no choice because nobody that wants to win is going to want to come here. The Sabres are going to have to give quite a few players money they don't deserve. - buffalofan19

it's a rule that was needed, though...there was plenty of cap circumvention with only the devils getting tagged...
the contract was awesome...the timing was off through no fault of regier - Michael Pachla
Making it retroactive is what makes it such a garbage rule. I actually hate the punishment for the Devils as well. The league is punishing a team for taking advantage of a rule whose flaw was so blatantly obvious to begin with. |

They have to get to the floor so they don't have much choice. |

The biggest factor in where a free agent will go is money. If there is a large enough gap they will come here. Most only get one very lucrative contract and they won't pass that up. |

Ehrhoff was garbage at best last year and would have been worse this year. - BigStew
Ehrhoff is hardly garbage. The guy plays huge minutes on a TERRIBLE defense. What exactly do you expect him to look like? |

That's what I'm saying. I have no doubt he can get guys to come here. My problem is that he talks this game about how he wants to be "tough to play against" and want players with the right attitude. Chances are, anybody that takes the Sabres' money, isn't going to have it. |

My mistake, he isn't garbage, he played like garbage last year. Not sure I would find many here that disagree. |

I think they will start up again if we sign Miller , then we can offer Lack as part of a package with Tanev |

Surprising to say the least. My guess is Murray wanted him out of the locker room and couldn't find a trade good enough to be worth the recapture penalty. - ZootAllures

Does a player not have to go through waivers before he can be bought out?...or am I thinking of something different? |

Not this time. it was fear of paying 8 mil in recapture. |

Unfortunately with how the draft works the rest of the teams in the league combined have a way better chance of getting him. |

The player being bought out if he has a NMC can opt to not waive it and go right to the buyout proceedings. |
