Ponder this for a few minutes, Buffalo is going to end up paying 34 million dollars to Christian Ehrhoff for essentially 2.5 seasons of play that resulted in zero playoff appearances and steadily declining teams.....WOW! |

I don't know about that. Guys that are trying to bounce back aren't going to want to be on the team that finished dead last and looks to be poised to do it again.
I could see a guy like Orpik coming here though. He's got ties to the area and has mentioned before that he would like to play here. That was quite a few years ago though, so he may have changed his tune. He's also slowed down considerably and I think the number of suitors for him will be small as it was obvious he had trouble keeping up numerous times this year. - HonkFortheGoose
Its all about money, guys looking to bounce back or to break thru won't get money from anyone else. We shall see. |

You're right, but he said short term deals. A guy that's trying to bounce back isn't going to sign a short term deal on a team that's been terrible for 2 years and is poised to be that way again this year. |

OK, so who are/is the veteran(s) on D that will guide our stable of youngsters to the Promised Land? If Myers is the sole guru, then we are french-fried.
My point was that, in a moment of slight inebriation, I saw a picture of Weber being a voice in the locker room that 1) has seen some ups and downs 2) seems like a Nolan guy 3) does not cost a lot 4) will still be a positive force in the locker room night after night, even though he mostly sucks, and will stay positive no matter what (see Erhoff, bought out) 5) The man sucked as$ laST season but played some decent hockey a year before under a coach that more resembles Nolan than Rolston 6) has been brought up through our farm system and can speak rationally in the room when we suck so bad this year that spirits are low 7) who else can be counted on on the back end to drop 'em if needed?
Maybe wishful thinking, but Mike Weber fits that mold more than anyone we got, at least for now. - LandlordTom
Easy there, Landlord. Don't throw me out on the street!
If playing a hunch on what probably should be an AHL defenseman is the smart move in your book, then more power to you.
I'm not and have never been a Mike Weber fan. I thought, during one brief, misguided moment, that he could've been the next Rhett Warrener. Good skater, decent size, tough.
Boy was I wrong.
His problem is he can't get out of his own way much of the time. Some of his problems were probably compounded by the trainwreck of a team we had, but I'm still not a fan.
Maybe Brooks Orpik can show him how to play. |

Hjalmarsson's. He's a favorite of mine. Don't like what he did to Pommer all those years ago, but that's also not typical from him either. - HonkFortheGoose
One of my best friends is a Hawks fan, can't stand Hjalmarsson. Just goes to show you everyone has different opinions on players. |

Did he elaborate on why he doesn't like him? I'm just curious as to what his reasons are.
I think he's an every situation guy. He can be put in late in games to either help hold a 1 goal lead, or to try and tie up a game.
He plays on the PK and PP. He blocks shots, and seems to be tough as nails. It takes a lot for him to miss a shift.
He doesn't take many penalties. Usually has pretty good positioning on the guys he's defending and doesn't usually get beat too often.
Those are just the reasons I like him. |

Good chance with all the youngins we have will make any UFA a show case player on this team. Ups their value for a better contract. Some just need the chance and haven't had it yet. |
