BTW a little late to the party, but what do you guys think about the McCann pick. He reminded me of Francis and that was not a good feeling. Did he come out and explain his bizarre interview and the sour puss face? |

Yeah, perhaps but there's really too much to mention in a single reply. Stick around and you'll see for yourself. |

I may be wrong, but I think he was bummed about falling that far. I think he redeemed himself afterwards. |

Personally, I think the contracts are too high for either. I'd rather see the kids be given a shot and get a little more grit with any FA signings. Would Staal want to be a #2 centre. - Canuckleafer
Well we paid the sedins just about as much as both and they were about 15-20 points less last season. We don't have to have a number 1 per say just two good centers. Play them equal amount of time.
I want to give the kids a shot definitely. What happens if the kids don't score. At least if we get staal and Marleau we have 4 players that can score and make players around them better. Instead of 2. |

That just sounds like we are giving him a pass for his comments. Did he actually come out and clear the air? I thought the purpose for the combine was for GM's to evaluate players and get a feel for if they would like to play on their team. I am just cheesed that we used that pick on McCaan (which I believe was Gillis move- pick the highest rated player that fell) when we had HoSang on the table. |

Yeah, was choked with dropping. Was nothing against the canucks. Linden talked a bit about it on 1040. |

As in Steve Francis? Yeah I have a bad feeling this guy will not work out RJ Umberber 2.0 |

Vantel sadi it the best. We need a Passer, A shooter and a grinder per line to succeed. The problem is Daniel has become a passer and Hank just does not shoot.. This takes away the effectiveness of the line. So essentially we need a grinder and shooter in 1 package. This is the reason I really wanted Stewart. |

HoSang would have been a riskier pick for sure. This was a little safe. |

I get it but I think 15 Mil of cap space on two players right now may not be the wisest decision right now. We need more grit on the third line and those moves don't allow much room at all.

He would have brought truculence. We have just too many of these ceiling 2-3-4 LC types. I know we need to build from the middle but lets go after guys that can actually play wing as well. McCann is a center only while Ho-Sang has the tools to play wing. |

I'd pay to see Eric Staal in blue and green. His totals might be dropping off, but he's big enough to play in the Pacific as a 2C.
I think for the Sedins to be effective we need a solid 2C who can match up with the oppositions best players. We don't have that right now, and there's nothing like that available in FA. |

We have been toying with our third and fourth lines since 2010 and scoring has been going down down down every year with the same top 6. Now we have no Kesler. Scoring just went further down. Unless Kassian has an absolute break out year and one of our rookies or two put up 50 points this season. We will be last in scoring. Only 3 rookies last year had more then 50 points.
Are we going to get vanek at 7 mil a season and watch him disappear in the playoffs? There is no one worth it out there. |

we have to get to the playoffs first before we would be watching him disappear. Signing Eric Staal or Marleau would only lead this team to mediocrity |

Yes he did and he was the highest ranked CENTER left on the board except perhaps Barbashev...who is projected to be a very similar player, but, he's Russian. |

Like the player but that huge contract is scary even with or because of it only having two years remaining before ufa... That organization is in trouble, were going all in on the Stalls and now evidently changing direction again.
I think if we were back in the win now mode, it would be worth the gamble. But with an eye towards restocking/reloading/retooling/GaryBettmanMakeoverReality...
It doesn't fit. |

some places had barb higher some had the other way around. Hopefully Mccann can turn it on offensively this year, he does have the tools to have a more offensive game. He was drafted higher in the OHL then guys that went higher but for some reason hasn't really lit that lamp offensively. |

Uh.. RT @News1130Sports: Miller told Liut 3 weeks ago, Van was high on his list, says he was well received by fans at the Olympics in 2010.
FFS nobody knew in 2010 that he wanted to play for the Canucks. |

I agree, neither of those 2 players will bring a lot to this team. A stop gap solution but that is it. I would rather miss the playoffs this year in a very deep draft then try and squeeze in 7-8th spot and get swept. This team needs a scoring 2lc then can take 1 lC in 2-3 years, Sedins unfortunately are only good for 1st or nd line in the new Western conference. They will not survive in 3rd line duties. |

He's got all the tools to be a very good player, speed, shot, hockey IQ, size, two-way game, he's exactly what Benning is looking for in a player.
Last year he played the whole year as a 17 year old, he needs time to mature, I like this pick. It'll be three years before we see this kid, let hm soak until he's ready |
