Nope, just saying this move was a bad one. - buffalofan19
Why?
He would have just loofed around all year like he did this past year..
do nothing to help the kids because he is mad about being here...
Would not make a good captain or assistant captain because of this...
Then would probably want to retire early to just get out of here...
Then it would F*CK us over royally in recapture penalties down the road.
I don't like the idea once so ever of losing a 20+ minute guy on our blueline... but in the end... the buyouts were use it or lose it.. and I completely understand the reasoning for doing it right now because we could be a top 10 team in 4-5 years and be hit with that 10M... we would have to cut lose and clean house. |

And that's what I don't like. He just admitted he was afraid of something that might possibly happen. Not trading a guy because he might retire in 6 years instead of 7, to me, is operating scared.
That being said, like I said yesterday, I hate the rule more than anything. - buffalofan19
10 million dollars in 6-7 years will probably be like 13% of the total cap. When I'm competing like, say the Bruins or the Hawks...or the Flyers..or the Lightning..... I want ALL that cap space. I don't want the risk of 10 (frank)ing million dollars of dead weight. Screw that. It's not operating scared, it's operating smart. Sure, he may not retire. But if he does, we're going to get bent the (frank) over. Screw that. |

Again, "if" it happens. I absolutely understand the rule, and the implications. I still would rather them take that risk. |

Everyone talks about the direction the club is going in and how long it’s going to take, why:
A) Have a player that doesn’t want to be here!
B) Contract/Cap mess down the road
C) Wont teach the young guns
D) All the Above |

John Vogl @BuffNewsVogl 6m
Tim Murray says on Sabres radio he's surprised how many agents of UFAs have contacted him, but he's still not convinced they want to sign
Guys looking for bigger pay days on short term deals.... only to be traded to a better team at the deadline...
Sure I'll play for you guys at 7M because other teams only are offering 4.5-5.5M.. then I get my same pay day and go to the highest bidder on a better team. |

It's a big "if" and nowhere near a guarantee. Again, I say "so what". I absolutely say take the return now, and worry about a potential supposed "problem" in seven years.
Not to mention, with the average tenure of GM's nowadays (I know it's hard to fathom given Regier's tenure), Murray may very well not be around by then. - buffalofan19
That "problem" we'll have to worry about could be a massive free agent acquisition or trade that we miss out on because 7 years ago we decided to take the risk of that 2015 pick that may or may not pan out anyways. |

BINGO!
I also think that Murray by doing this is signaling that we are goign to have to find a veteran guy to sign because we know that Nolan doesn't want to have ot play too many kids.. |

Fine. Trade him. Don't lose him for nothing. Fear of a small percentage scenario shouldn't deter a team from getting a return.

Murray laughing at trading Foligno or Myers
Schopp is so mad - sbroads24
(frank) Schopp. He needs more vacation time so Bulldog can go full time.
"Myers' +/- is bad, therefore he is bad."
That was the day I lost all respect for him. And yes, I realize it should have been a lot sooner. |

Exactly. I don't want any space tied up on someone who didn't want to be here.
As much as I ragged on Hoff, he's a good player.
But he was about to be 32 and didn't wanna go through a rebuild. Ok so fine, he's gone. Murray didn't want to risk the penalty. I agree, being upset is short sighted IMO |

FWIW: Ehrhoff's 10m recapture penalty would account for 12.5% of an 80m cap. 5m would be 6.25% of the cap
his recapture penalty would be the highest paid player on our team during a time when we are trying to contend. |

And in 6 years my house might burn down or get struck by lightning. In six years I might get my identity stolen and lose everything. That doesn't preclude me from going to work and building up wealth now. It's the mindset I have the most problem with. |

Trading him solves NOTHING.
If he was traded to say.. Philly.... and he retires during those 1M year period when he is in his late 30s..
that 10M recapture penalty still comes back to us because we are the ones who signed him to that deal. |

Not to mention that he never really lived up to the contract he signed to be our superstar PP quarterback...
His numbers in Couver that got him that deal were inflated beyond what he can do without that kind of star power. |

Like I said, I fully understand the rules and implications. I take that risk. If he retires in any other year except 2020, the hit is more than manageable. It's a small percentage scenario. So what? |
