It sucks, because I like Vinny, and was excited to have him join the team. Unfortunately, the results were not very good. Even if he rebounds, I don't see a great fit for what Berube says he wants to do - Jsaquella
Before he hurt his back and was playing 2nd line center exclusively. He was our best goal scorer. Then he was shuffled around the lineup and had a bad back. I dont think the team was fair to him. I would like to give him another year. I mean we are talking about a potential hall of famer. He is 34 but he isnt a dinosaur. |

Or 20 goals. If the Flyers didn't have so many guys capable of scoring 20, I'd be trying to find a fit for Vinny, rather than trading him. - Jsaquella
TBH if cap space wasn't a problem I don't think anyone would be discussing a trade. Hopefully in the future the Flyers can manage their cap space 10x better |

I can only hope Hexy has some cap dumping moves up his sleeve. Stevie Y has shown he is a crafty sob at dumping cap like an animal - bigmookalookie
Here is the deal with the Flyers cap picture. Essentially once the Flyers decide how to approach placing Pronger on LTIR, the Flyers upper limit for the season will be $73,942,429. They currently stand at $69,236,429. Giving them $4,706,000 to play with.
Now as far as the off season cap picture in concerned. Flyers were fortunate to not have that many injuries last season. So that helps with the off season cap picture. With the 10% off season exemption kicking in, the Flyers currently have $6,210,482 of off season cap space. That could change if they decide to qualify Gustafsson. Which would decrease that by 1M.
Is it tight, sure it is. But it always is every year. And the Flyers always find ways to make moves, and put a good team on the ice. But every year there is panic and arguments about the Flyers having cap problems. There are always ways to maneuver around the cap. No reason to panic. |

Not a move I would make. - MJL
Reason?
I like MacDonald. I would have said Grossmann to Calgary instead of MacDonald but then our mix would that of what we talked about. Too undersized with MDZ filling in for Grossmann. Also MacDonald gives some cap relief then. I still think the best move if all parties agree is Vinny to NSH for del zotto. Even if you don't use him then do what tampa did and flip him for something. Maybe then you move RFA del zotto for another RFA winger that might need a change. |

There is not a problem with the way the Flyers manage the cap. They are a cap team, and they choose to maximize that asset. It is by plan, not by mismanagement.

The reason is that Del Zotto is not as good as MacDonald all around. And I'd find a different way to move Lecavalier. As we discussed before, I'd make the Del Zotto trade and then trade Del Zotto somewhere else.

This could change under Hextall. It could also stay the same. |

Ok. I got it.
Vinny to Nsh for Del Zotto
Del Zotto to Calgary for Baertshi
That would work |

Yes it could change for sure. But you know what, I don't want to be one of those teams that has holes in the lineup and has 6M of cap space left over at the end of the year. I think that's a waste. I like how the Flyers approach the cap. |

The next few days will be telling. It seems like trades will be the headliner instead of UFA signings lol. |

Yes I did.
We get a winger that is low risk/high reward and some cap space. |

I would be discussing a trade. I just don't think Vinny fits what they want to do, and as such, they're looking to move on. It's similar to Hartnell, IMO |

To say talks are going slowly b/w #CBJ and Ryan Johansen would be a positive spin. Two sides waaaaay apart. Story in Monday's Dispatch.

Ray Ferraro @rayferrarotsn now
1) @Buccigross @Aportzline this is where I get lost/young player, potential star, wants big $$, long term 1yr after splitting yr in AHL / NHL

2) @Buccigross @Aportzline what's wrong with what Subban did? Signed 2yr deal, earned huge deal coming this summer |

He had a good stretch and then struggled. The injury was a factor, but his play starting to dip before the back injury.
If they can't trade him, I'd try him as a RW with Giroux. He mentioned that in his interviews when he signed here and his early season hat truck vs NYI came when he was on Giroux's line |

The guy is a moron. He criticizes Holmgren for signing the player to a deal after only having a small sample size of games to look at the player. But he is perfectly willing to criticize the player on the same sample size of games!

Did Ray forget that Subban held out after demanding big money, and only signed the bridge deal after he got close to the cut off date to be eligible to play?

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Monday Quick Hits - bmeltzer
Quoted "Stockpiling Defenseman"... Any comments/speculation on any of the draft picks and/or prospects actually making the team this coming year?
We got - what I've gathered. No one will make it as a "definite", 1-2 may get a longer look past camp. Only if someone truly excels do they make the team;
Sanhein and other draftee's not ready (even if excels, won't make the team)
Morin (too young, would benefit with 1-2 more years?)
Alt (ready, but Pro material? - lower lines)
Gostisbehere (possibly ready?, Pro material on the defensive-side???)
Hagg (possibly ready?, but focus issues)
Bourdon (could be a Pro, if health issues weren't there - is he done?)
Manning (ready, but Pro material? - lower lines)
Others (won't crack the lineup,
What the Flyers need is a top line guy, that they can groom to be a #1. Doesn't look like it will be this year. They have plenty of guys to fill the middle. And, as for the 6-7 guy - the Flyers generally hold that for an old vet, who doesn't need the constant play to get better.

I read it, got a good laugh out of it. Makes him sound like the Flyers should immediately demote him to the AHL!
