And Raffl. - Feanor
Eminger
JVR/Luke Schenn
Kubina
Bobrovsky/Bryzgalov
Laviolette fired after 3 games
LeCavalier
Inability to field a NHL caliber fourth line for majority of his tenure
Upshall/Carcillo
Gagne/ Matt Walker
Constantly signing "core" players to long term deals only to ship their ass out shortly after
Far too little value on draft picks
Controversial: MacDonald, Streit
He's done good, but far too much negative since his hot start. Do not enjoy him still having a position in the organization. He should have no say other than scouting undrafted players. |

To be honest I could give a rats ass if they miss the playoffs for a couple years. Having or not having Streit might mean the difference between playoffs/no playoffs but he isn't going to win them the cup.
If they can trade him now, get a higher pick next season and keep moving toward a proper organic re-build to establish themselves as a consistent upper tier team in a few years Im all in.
One step back, to take a few forward later. - flyer_nutter
This.
I will be just as happy driving to Allentown to watch our up and coming prospects gel and start to doninate while the flyers flounder with the bloated contracts for a couple years.
I can have fun that way knowing they are giving themselves a real chance

Johansen is not happy - Tomahawk
Kind of a female dog move by him imo.
He had one real break-out season. Do a bridge and play strong, get a higher pay-cheque at the end of it.
Its this culture set by stupid GM's that lead to a lack of bridge contracts. I like they seem to be moving back into favour. |

Or we could have waited too long and gotten nothing, that's happened too, like with Matt Carle. I don't particualy like the deal either, and I'm not defending it. I am defending the GM making that deal. MacD made this team much better. He asked for a lot and Homer said okay. - flyler
And I disagree with the GM's decision to do it. Simple as that. I understand why, and disagree with it. I also disagree that adding MacDonald made the team "much" better.
Yes, there was a degree of improvement. Was it worth the cost? I doubt that. |

They had years to reinforce the idea that Matt Carle was terrific and he was a perfect part of the mix... AMac was given 6-years after one month in uniform.
Really not sure how the two can be viewed as parallels. |

--------------------------------------
CSNPhilly :
Hextall comes into this NHL draft with a pair of handcuffs on his wrists.
“You could look at it that way or you could look at it the other way where teams might be looking to grab something off you because you do need relief,” Hextall said.
“That is what I kind of put out there. We do need relief and if you have any ideas, give me a shout. It’s not an option, but there are teams out there that need help. We’ll see where it goes.”
The Morning call (this morning) :
"We haven't met with anybody,'' Hextall said Saturday after the NHL Entry Draft ended at the Wells Fargo Center.
"First on my agenda right now is to go back to Skate Zone and take a look at our cap. We have the hard number now, so we've got to look at it and see where we can try to maneuver.''
Without question, that $69 million figure kind of hit the Flyers where it hurts – in the wallet.
"Yeah, it affects every team that's close,'' Hextall said. "It affects us for sure. We've got to find a way to get below it. It was a little lower than we thought and hoped.''
------------------------------
It might just be me but Hextall sounds a little more concerned about the Flyers salary cap problems than you do.
Let me know when you find a quote where Hextall says they are fine and the Salary Cap is not an issue. - Flyers_01

So, doubling down on a potentially bad move is better than being patient and waiting to see what else presents itself? - Jsaquella
Not at all. I was just pointing out that letting either walk would've opened up Holmgren to immediate criticism. In the Pronger case more than likely he would've been Flyers President earlier.

Whatever deal they gave MacDonald, losing that 2nd rounder next year strings.
Could have waited for him in FA. He isn't a guy you cry over if he signs with another team. He didn't give them a huge break in terms of contract demands. They signed him for 6 (frank)ing years. |

In the Pronger case he was getting a guy still playing at a near Norris worthy level, in MacDonald's case, he was getting a fairly easy to replace guy. |

If I was Florida, maybe slight interest. As bad as he was, he would have been second on their team in scoring. |

Kinda like the Pavel Kubina trade? How was that asset management? A 2 & 4 for a rotting corpse. - PLindbergh31
I wasn't clear. I wasn't supporting the moves just trying to guess what they were thinking. |

Gallant is talking about playing an up-tempo style... need to find a team that plays down-tempo. |

Their loss. This guy is a Stanley cup winner. A 20 goal scorer through a year of injury and being forced onto the wing. This guy was playing strong hockey prior to injury. Leadership, scoring, just needs to find the right system, you mean to tell me all of a sudden he forgot to play hockey!!! Etc etcblah blah

Yeah really. I mean he says he wants to be a Blue Jacket, well then, sign the bridge deal that you SHOULD get and prove to them that they should sign you to the long term. |
