They hung around looking for a better Defensemen than Carle waiting for Suter to call, when Carle simply moved on. The idea that trading for AMac and then waiting while we looke for better options is the parallel I'm drawing. Bird in the hand situation. - flyler
Except they wouldn't be asking him to wait around... they'd be moving on b/c he asked for too much $. Same as Leino... sorry, you're not worth that, goodbye... oh hello Jags. |

So FA begins at noon tomorrow? Vinny's bonus is due tomorrow? Can they pay him and trade him by say 3 tomorrow? Can he be paid at like 9 a.m. then be traded by 11 so we can sigh awesome Ott at 12:05?

Name this Flyer. Hint: 25 game suspension.

Dunno. Looks Like a goalie from at least 2000s. My guesses would be Roman Checkmanek
Edit: Nope It Jesse Boulerice. Don't even remember the guy..... |

So... nobody could foresee that teams would use the last of the CBO window to erase recapture risks and bad contracts? Really? - Tomahawk
Yes really. Nothing was a given. Are you recommending that the Flyer should have sat back and passed up an opportunity to improve the team, for what might happen in the future? |

That's Biron - Streit2ThePoint
The thing that I will always remember about Biron is that the Flyers made him a 3-4 year deal for $4 mill/yr to be the starter and he held out for money before finally settling for a backup job with the Rangers for $1 mill/yr. Holy backfire batman. |

It was imperative they sign McDonald because spending a second round pick on a rental by a bubble team would've been bad asset management. Which also most likely gave MacDonald an edge in negotiations.
Much like Chris Pronger knew that Holmgren had to give him whatever it took to sign him long term after he gave up the equivalent of 4 1st round draft picks to acquire him as a 1 year rental. Chris Pronger made more in his golden years than he ever did in his prime.
I'm not saying either were bad players at the time but Holmgren really couldn't really let either walk. Chris Pronger walking after all he gave up for him most likely would've ended his GM tenure right then and there. - Flyers_01
They didn't want to let them walk. They signed both players to solid deals. They wouldn't have gotten them any cheaper if they were free agents on the open market. It's likely it would've cost them more. |

I really don't think they would've. What do you base your numbers on? |

So is it just me or does it fell liket he UFA's this year are just kinda meh?
Lukewarm is the best I can say.
That tells me teams are getting better about evaluating talent and locking them up before they hit FA. |
