Why would the sharks trade Irwin for grossman. Well managed teams don't make these trades |

the sharks need a player like grossman they have too many offensively minded dmen |

Holmgren has a strong jaw. LeCavalier. Cap problems.
Saw the new Transformers yesterday. Might has well have been snorting some donkey ass juice. - flyer_nutter
Sucked didnt it? Went opening night way to looooooong, dumbass plot and marky mark was the worst option for that role. Should have went with an unknown or a lesser known more believable robot maker single dad living in a cornfield. haa |

They can go sign Gleason or volchenkov for half of grossmans deal. Unless they want to poop some salary onto the flyers |

--------------------------------------
CSNPhilly :
Hextall comes into this NHL draft with a pair of handcuffs on his wrists.
“You could look at it that way or you could look at it the other way where teams might be looking to grab something off you because you do need relief,” Hextall said.
“That is what I kind of put out there. We do need relief and if you have any ideas, give me a shout. It’s not an option, but there are teams out there that need help. We’ll see where it goes.”
The Morning call (this morning) :
"We haven't met with anybody,'' Hextall said Saturday after the NHL Entry Draft ended at the Wells Fargo Center.
"First on my agenda right now is to go back to Skate Zone and take a look at our cap. We have the hard number now, so we've got to look at it and see where we can try to maneuver.''
Without question, that $69 million figure kind of hit the Flyers where it hurts – in the wallet.
"Yeah, it affects every team that's close,'' Hextall said. "It affects us for sure. We've got to find a way to get below it. It was a little lower than we thought and hoped.''
------------------------------
It might just be me but Hextall sounds a little more concerned about the Flyers salary cap problems than you do.
Let me know when you find a quote where Hextall says they are fine and the Salary Cap is not an issue. - Flyers_01
There are no direct quotes from Hextall there saying they can't sign any free agents with the cap picture as is. There is a clear disconnect here, on what my position is. For a team like the Flyers, the cap is always going to be an issue. as it is for a lot of teams. My position is the Flyers have some flexibility, with the ability to get more flexibility if they so desire. And there is no reason for the panic that the fan base gets into every off season about the cap. Especially when capgeek is looked at, and t's not understand what is there. |

@tsnscottcullen: RT @ice_chip: Francis said he recently spoke with Joni Pitkanen's agent. Was told Joni still could not put foot in skate.
Yikes. |

Yes really. Nothing was a given. Are you recommending that the Flyer should have sat back and passed up an opportunity to improve the team, for what might happen in the future? - MJL
If tomahawk were GM, I don't think he'd ever be in line for a promotion thinking like that do you? |

And I disagree with the GM's decision to do it. Simple as that. I understand why, and disagree with it. I also disagree that adding MacDonald made the team "much" better.
Yes, there was a degree of improvement. Was it worth the cost? I doubt that. - Jsaquella
He's going into the first year of the deal, and already there are doubts that it was worth the cost. I'm going to let him actually play more then 25 games or so to come to that conclusion. Rather then form a hasty and premature opinion. |

I knew that poop was too good to be true -- those four more years have Hextall just effed and effed and effed
Totally terrified that what they send to get him off the roster is gonna make Gagne for Walker look like Zhitnik for Coburn

They had years to reinforce the idea that Matt Carle was terrific and he was a perfect part of the mix... AMac was given 6-years after one month in uniform.
Really not sure how the two can be viewed as parallels. - Tomahawk
Completely misses the point of passing up one opportunity for another to improve the team, that may never come to fruition. Suter and Weber were part of that equation. |

In the Pronger case he was getting a guy still playing at a near Norris worthy level, in MacDonald's case, he was getting a fairly easy to replace guy. - Jsaquella
Right now, who can they get to replace MacDonald fairly easy? |

The more I think about the more I think he is back with the team for the season. Maybe a TDL move to a team that needs scoring and has some injuries to main guys. |

That way someone can be first in line to rip them when the opportunity they waited for went somewhere else, and the team is stuck with a big hole! |

Well for the 5mm a season I would say look at your org to replaced him or look for a low cost option. With the cap and all those deals we signed that 5mm to Amac has the Flyers hands tied |

I really don't think they would've. What do you base your numbers on? - Flyers_01
Supply and demand of the NHL salary market. If MacDonald was going into free agency tomorrow, he's be in high demand. And teams bidding against one another would drive up the price. As MacDonald's agent stated, he took a little less then he could've gotten on the open market to sign with the Flyers. |
