I am saying if they waited they might be in worse. MacDonald didn't set the market price for Dman. Its a market that continully increases because he lack of talent and NHL dman. - J35Bacher
I think his point is that the CBO's and such are increasing the supply for "similar" defensemen. Which isn't necessarily wrong or right, depending on what the market ends up being (the Nikitin signing didn't help, for sure) and what you call "similar." At the same time, there was no way to know for sure who would be available when they signed the extension. |

i'm thrilled. i love what's happening right now. slowly turning the aircraft carrier around. i also have a sneaking suspicion we're going to hit on at least one, if not 2 of our late rounders in this draft. especially this jesper character. man, would i love a little plug swedish dman to run around and level every single piece of poop in blue, red and white. - hammarby31

I don´t see much of Hägg but Pettersson (#6) sure keeps on going. |

Well, in the first place, me being able to list 8-10 potential free agents who are similar to MacDonald shows there's not really a lack of talent. Also, three of the guys I mentioned took less money or less term or both(Markov, Hainsey & Nikitin) than MacDonald got. |

I come for the company. Not the squabbles. I feel like a gold miner here on some days. Often times I learn a few nuggets of really cool interesting things about hockey or the Flyers, or even a person on the board. You just have to filter out the rest...

Love the takedown. Filthy Russians.
Edit: I believe he was suspended for the Gold Medal game for that. |

Subject change, anyone? Who is the one player out there in FA that you would like the Flyers to sign that is a realistic option? |

Correct. And at the same time, MacDonald couldn't sign anywhere else until July 1st. there wasn't exactly a need to rush to sign him. |

You're going to need a bigger leap away from cap hit to get a subject change...
Cap hit will limit FA signings for us. Which I am perfectly ok with. |

The players I listed are all pretty much 2nd or 3rd pair defensemen. Some are better than MacDonald, some are not as good. There's not really any who are significantly (i.e. worth $3mm a year less than AMac) on the list. |

Right. My only thing was that there wasn't a need to rush to sign Carle either until the Wideman signing drove the price up, much like Nikitin's signing may have. Maybe he sees that signing and decides he wants 6 years at $5.5M or he goes to UFA and you end up paying even more for a UFA. |

I get the opinion. But he is making it sound liek there was a certainty that all these guys woulld be right there for the Flyers to sign with no competition. I think the Macdonald deal is a solid signing on a young dman who can move forward as the d transisitons to the prospects and as guys like Kimmo and maybe Grossmann move on. |

I've tooted my Kulemin and Redmond horns to death... so here's a new one:
Paul Ranger... think he's still only 80% up to speed... when/if he gets back to 100%, he's a top-4 guy for sure. |

Let's see -- PK Subban is restricted, but an offer sheet isn't going to work. Or yes, they could sign Thomas Vanek, but the subsequent moves would male.that less likely.
Stuff like that; yes, they could sign Paul.Statsny, but they probably won't have interest. |

Because of cap limitations, I'd sign a backup goaltender such as Greiss, Johnson, or MacDonald...you can never go wrong with too many MacDonalds. |

True, but the Flyers had the choice to sign Carle or Grossmann long before the season ended, and went with Grossmann.
Again, different situation, as there were far fewer comparables in UFA to Carle that year than there are for MacDonald this year
