He also got lit up in his very (VERY) short stint with the Flyers. Although he played well towards the end.

Since we don't have a Gus for the season, Del Zotto could be an extra d-man in case someone (Timonen, Amac, Streit) get hurt. And if he ever gets it together, then the Flyers have another piece.
- aflyerpower8

Rather sign a better two way guy to be 7th defenseman, can handle more roles. If you have a guy like DZ and Timonen or Streit go down, he can handle to PP or offensive side. But he can't handle the other side

Nonsense. If we didn't do that, we'd never be able to place David Laliberte and Harry Zolnercziek in their proper places of NHL glory.

I'm thinking they're gonna roll with Lauridsen as the 7th.

"Hey Michael, check this out, right...we want to pay you to move to the East Coast for next-to-nothing compared to what you were making and have you sit in a box unless someone much better than you gets hurt. You ready to sign?"

If another team was willing to pay him his qualifying offer, he would have been traded.

So not accepting still has impact on the cap? I'm not a "cap guy"
- funmaster18

By the rules of off season cap accounting, player receiving qualifying offers on one way contracts will count in full towards the off season cap. So that adds 1M to the Flyers off season cap for qualifying Gustafsson.

I think the thing is that, right now, Vinny and Grossmann are on the roster. And other teams know they are in cap trouble, which limits their ability to make a trade with any leverage for a good return (unless they include extra assets or absorb partial salaries). If they further complicate things by signing players to large contracts, then they are REQUIRED to move out other contracts, which basically lets every other GM know that they can give up next to nothing for those players. That is why they should not go after a player like Ehrhoff, who's going to drive a bidding war.

Then he'd probably be upset that he'll be sitting in a box instead of playing, unless his dream is to sit in a box in Philadelphia.

I see. So it's not against the cap, just reduces the 10% overage they are allotted in the offseason?
