Does anyone know if the Flyers can pay him his bonus AND trade him tomorrow? Or do they have to wait one full day until they can do that?
- mochoson

Don't know of any rules regarding that.

No salary was retained in the Briere deal. Let's keep in mind that if Lecavalier is going to be traded, it's likely going to happen after July 1, and that 2M bonus is paid.
- MJL

Very aware of that.

Wondering if they try to trade him for someone with one year left and then buy out that one year player

well after being forced to retain salary on at least half of those deals, or taking back a few more albatross feathers of your own, im going to say, E. None of the above.

Would they just make sure that in the trade call it's made clear that PHI is paying Lecavalier his bonus that is due same day? I really don't see why they couldn't do it all in one day, but I also wouldn't be surprised if theres some bureaucratic paper work type mumbo-jumbo that needs to be done first.

I'm guessing that the teams that would let $2M in bonus money stop them are probably not ones that Vinny would likely waive for.

Think he needs another spirit-breaking season on the 4th-line before Brooklyn, Ottawa and Arizona start to appeal to him.

Maybe it's a simple phone saying 'Vinny, the check is in the mail, and good luck with your new team".

I think the threat of watching from the pressbox by Hextall with his goalie stick in hand would be effective.

Even if you're one of the top money teams, why pay the 2M when you don't have to? There's no rush for them to make the deal. I think a lot of the free agent dust has to settle first anyway.

Panotch said almost traded Vinny to Preds but they didnt want his cap hit for four more years.....were quickly running out of options for Vinny

we're stuck with him. let's just hope he stays healthy and can improve on his play away from his one-timers with the puck. it's a lot to hope for.

Patience, when another team runs out of options to fill their second line center, someone will take Vinny. Buffalo has to spend a lot to get to the cap floor, and don't want to get much better for next year.
