Do you think the Preds were like "Hey we'll take VL. Wait, he has 4 more years left. nvm" - PhillySportsGuy
Exactly what I was thinking. How far along did the trade discussion get before Nashville realized he has 4 year remaining? Pretty funny if that's what Pannacio actually said.

The only thing I can figure that makes sense is the Preds were looking for retained salary to lessen the cap hit. |

That would be my guess as well. Tim found a way to spin it, tho. |

A lot of people are misunderstood about the Flyers potential interest in Steve Ott. Personally, I'd be stoked if they signed him. On this Flyers team, he wouldn't be playing with Giroux and Voracek. He'd be playing as the Flyers 9th forward and go up and down the lineup as needed. I think he would be a great fit with Read and Couturier. They need a consistent linemate. Akeson and Downie aren't the a good fit for that role in my opinion. Ott is. He won't be expected to be a 20 goal scorer or a go to guy offensively, but he does have some offensive upside. He is a physical presence, gets under opponents' skin, can play left wing or center, can take face offs, works hard and kills penalties. He was horribly misused in Buffalo playing on their top line, powerplay time and was team captain, (which should also tell you something about his work ethic). If he's a bust with Couturier and Read, then put him on the fourth line with Rinaldo. I've heard Jody Shelly comparisons, but those are ridiculous to me. I see the potential negatives he brings as well. But to me he's worth the gamble to put him in the 9th forward/4th line role. And where's the toughness in the lineup now anyways besides Simmonds and Rinaldo? They could definitely use Ott. |

Lamoriello: Devils made Fayne "a good offer" & still want him back, but "might not be able to compete with the numbers that are out there."
Losing him will definitely make them worse - PhillySportsGuy

I agree, and wouldn't mind seeing Ott with the Flyers. But it's about cap hit and the cost. I think he's going to want to much money and term for my taste. |

I am probably Leight, but why would they qualify Gus. Doesnt this tie up money until the start of the season? - MBFlyerfan
It does, but it allows them to hold his rights if he decides to return to N America |

Part of the negotiating processing, leave it up to Panotch to spin it like they were so close, but that hurdle of term just got in the way, darn!!!! Journalism, at its' finest.
