According to a league source, the Preds were willing to take the full cap hit for two of Lecavalier's remaining four years but not the entire contract.

To my limited knowledge, that makes no sense to me. I don't think you can just magically shave off years of a contract, even with the new eating salary ordeal.

Then, I noticed who wrote the article. Makes sense now.

Flyers buyout Briere, replace him with VL.

Briere traded for a player who has 143 points in his last 187 games, meanwhile the Flyers couldn't trade VL for a bag of pucks.

The Flyers have been Holmgren'd. What a steaming pile of mastodon dung.

I thought it was a percentage of the entire deal. I was under the impression that teams must pay the same percentage of the deal each season. They can't offer to pay all of his deal one year, then none for the next 3 years.

You apparently aren't up with the times. If you wear the salary cap backwards, you can retain 2 years of cap. Duh.

A lot of people are misunderstood about the Flyers potential interest in Steve Ott. Personally, I'd be stoked if they signed him. On this Flyers team, he wouldn't be playing with Giroux and Voracek. He'd be playing as the Flyers 9th forward and go up and down the lineup as needed. I think he would be a great fit with Read and Couturier. They need a consistent linemate. Akeson and Downie aren't the a good fit for that role in my opinion. Ott is. He won't be expected to be a 20 goal scorer or a go to guy offensively, but he does have some offensive upside. He is a physical presence, gets under opponents' skin, can play left wing or center, can take face offs, works hard and kills penalties. He was horribly misused in Buffalo playing on their top line, powerplay time and was team captain, (which should also tell you something about his work ethic). If he's a bust with Couturier and Read, then put him on the fourth line with Rinaldo. I've heard Jody Shelly comparisons, but those are ridiculous to me. I see the potential negatives he brings as well. But to me he's worth the gamble to put him in the 9th forward/4th line role. And where's the toughness in the lineup now anyways besides Simmonds and Rinaldo? They could definitely use Ott.

Isn't Umberger the same player...Guy who can move up and down lineup, but is really a 3rd line forward.....frankly, I feel we have a ton of 2nd and 3rd line talent in our team...the problem is you need the 1st line goal scoring winger to play with your superstar center and Vorachek, who is certainly more of a playmaker then goal scorer....They are missing this player who is a pure goal scoring sniper type, and honestly I doubt we will see that player for a while

so Nashville wanted the Flyers to retain 50% of VL's deal (they were OK paying for 2 years)?

can a team retain 50%?

Seriously, though, a team can't pay more during certain seasons, can they?

I wonder if this means Vinny would actually waive for Nashville, or if they're working a deal out first and asking later i.e. Spezza

I'm sure VL's agent has made some calls and is working with Hexy to get something done.
