With all my previous banter said and done. My feeling is the flyers will start him on the 1st LW with G and voracek. Allows the flyers to move Couts up to 2nd line center and they will sign a Fa to center 3rd line with Laughton starting the year as 4 line center. Having Scheen On the top line and laughton on the team will help with cap flexibility to fill out the rest of the roster being scheens 2.5 mil and Laughton on a Elc helps counter inflated cap hits elsewhere. |

Preds trying to acquire Lecavalier
TheFourthPeriod.com
The Nashville Predators are hoping to acquire center Vincent Lecavalier from the Philadelphia Flyers, but the team is not interested in paying his $2 million bonus.
Lecavalier has a $2 million bonus that is to be paid out July 1. It's believed the Predators are willing to take on the rest of his contract once that bonus has been paid out by Philly.
Lecavalier is entering the second-year of a five-year, $22.5 million contract.
He will earn $6 million next season, $4.5 million in 2015-16, and $3 million in each of the last two years of his contract.
The Predators are looking for a top-line center to play alongside left wing James Neal, whom they acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.
Predators GM David Poile almost acquired Jason Spezza from the Ottawa Senators, but the veteran center refuse to waive his no-trade clause for Nashville.
Lecavalier, 34, registered 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in 69 games with the Flyers this past season.

Is that the same Gagne that no other team showed interest in or a different one?
Gagne is 34 , Umberger is 32. - opeth_pa
Wow, I cannot believe how how many completely missed the point in what my original post. |

If I were them I would wait as well... especially since they are cutting a $13 million check to Weber tomorrow

now they'll pay his full hit, just not the bonus? 5 minutes ago, dramaccio said they wanted him but for only half the hit.
my guess is he ends up nowhere near nashville. they either keep him, or another deal goes down, once which we'll never hear whispers of until it's over. |

A lot of folks figured that $2mm loomed large in stalling Vinny talks. Patience is required. |

If the Flyers pay the bonus, the Preds will get a $4.5mm hit for an average of $3.62mm per year. That's pretty easy to take on, cash wise. |

He seemed fine with us two years ago. With our limited cap and need for left wingers, I would look into signing him. - aflyerpower8
I'm not in the least saying that we should bring back Simon Gagne, however what I am saying is that one year ago we could have brought Gagne back. He would have been 33 and one year older then Umburger is now. He would have been a lot cheaper, with few years on his deal. Gagne and Umburger at this stage within their career are verbally the same player. I just think it's extremely ironic.
With this said, Hartnell for Umburger and now the rumours of LeCavalier for Upshall?
Umburger isn't a front line player but we gave up a front line player to get him, around the same price tag but less years for RJ. LeCavalier who makes 4.5 million is more skilled and less injury prone to Upshall who makes 3.5 with one year left. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and doesn't exactly give me a feeling of hope for this season. |

Yeah. The Preds don't care about the cap hit. In their eyes, they're getting VL for $3.62M over 4 years. |

This!!! Considering the Preds are an organization who probably aren't interested in spending to the cap, real dollars is spent per year will be the determining factor. $3.62 million on a 2nd line center is not a bad price tag. We all know Vinny has warts. However, a team like Nashville would have to severely overpay UFAs to sign, so these type of transactions makes sense.

I'm not gonna go as far to saying that Gagne will never play in this league again. He might not play for the Flyers again but I wouldn't count him out in playing in this league. I'd say if he isn't offered a try-out as many players do, I'd say his chances drop dramatically. There are many examples of players who've sat out a year and then came back strong. Eric Lindros comes to mind. His first season with the Rangers comes to mind. It wasn't one of his better seasons but still pretty good. During the lockout of 04-05, sitting out a year actually did Teemu Selanne a huge favour for his career.
Saying never had interest from teams isn't true. He told his agent to not accept offers from teams because he was sure he was re-signing with us. |

According to our esteemed beat writers, the Flyers are in the market for a backup goalie, depth forward and 7th dman. It could be a very unexciting FA for both of us. |

I hope you get an inexperienced coach, a disinterested GM who wants more out of the two guys on the team driving the train and a meddlesome team president who scared off good candidates with interfering...oh, wait

honestly though man, i really think thats in both of the teams best respective interests.
the flyers arent going to be able to sign the defender they need to a deal that ultimately helps the team. its gonna have to either be one grows from within eventually, or assets are moved to acquire one via trade. i still think the latter is the best course of action, but its still largely independent of FA signings.
and for the pens, i know nisk is a goner. he has to be. but hopefully so is orpik. id like jussi resigned, but im sure he will get more than the pens can give as well. give me kulemin signed and goc re upped for a combined 5 and change, and i am good to go. |
