I just see Cammy as having more speed, better suited for WD's system. We already have the Sedins who prefer more of a cycling game...I'm thinking more along the lines of finding a winger to ply with Bonino.
But I'd assume you guys are suggesting Iggy with the Twins? - Nucker101
That would be the idea. Iggy seems to be able to adapt well to different situations/styles of play. Plus, they finally have someone on the line (assuming they stick together) who won't put up with any poop. |

Shink is ready , Shink Bonino Iggy or Hank Iggy Shink - VANTEL
Fixed.
He is my dark horse to make the team. |

Either way if neither worked out good trade deadline bait. - thundachunk
Yes low risk as Kassian gets another year under his belt and Virtanen Shinkaruk and Jensen get more experience. |

I want the 2nd line to have some speed, apparently Bonino is an okay skater(not particularly fast), so signing Iggy makes that 2 guys who won't exactly blow by defenders to create odd man rushes. We're gonna have a Torts-like problem where the roster doesn't fit the coach's scheme if the Canucks speed up front doesn't improve IMO. |

I'm not so sure. That's a tall order to ask of him considering the injury. Corrado should make the team. I actually liked his play last year. He quietly went about his job. He wasn't spectacular but seemed comfortable enough. |

How many times must I say he scored 30 goal last year.
He is a battler.
If Kes was still here most people would be ok , Iggy is better than Kes |

I can get on board with that, but if you sign Iggy and Miller, I think that's probably it for impact UFA's. Like I told Lefty earlier, signing Miller really handcuffs the team's chance to improve goalscoring ability. I don't think Bonino with 2 of Burrows/Higgins/Shinkaruk/Kassian is a good enough 2nd line. |

Iggy left Calgary to win cups. He tried in PIT, then in BOS. Unless Benning offers a much better deal than anyone else I can't see him coming to VAN now. |

Chi Bos LA can't afford him so he is not winning a cup next year either |

I now he scored 30, you don't have to remind me. I'm just saying that you need the right players to fit your coach's scheme/system. This team needs more speed up front for Willie's system(especially since we already have the Sedins taking up 2 of the top 6 spots as mediocre skaters) or its gonna be another mismatch between the system and the roster. |

Yeah, I'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't sign with a team that made the playoffs last year. |

If I had to pick one of the expensive wingers, I guess I'd take Cammy. He's stepped up with some big goals in his career, but he's 32 years old so anything more than 2-3 years is gonna hurt you later IMO. - Nucker101
I'd take a flyer on Cammalleri, I think he's still got juice in the tank and continues to have good offensive skills, as well as leadership qualities. Even though the Flames were out of the play-offs for quite some time left in the season, he nonetheless continued to put in a good effort. |

Absolutely. Which is why I think they should stay clear of Miller and use some of the space to improve their depth as per the good doctor's suggestions. I like Lack as the starter. He can't be used like he was down the stretch though |

That's what I thought at first but the cap positions of the top teams may force him to expand his choices a bit. |

Hank and IGGY > Hank and Daniel - VANTEL
Yes? So what happens to our 2nd line? Let's assume the Canucks sign Hiller or Miller because it sounds like they really want a veteran goalie and will pay for one. How would the top 6 look? Would it fit WIllie's system?
From HF:
I watched willie closely when he was in medicine hat, and also watched the calder cup. I will say the buzz about willie in medicine hat is already big and many vc fans are much more optimistic about the team then previously here in the city. I had a cab driver already mention to me he is a big nucks fan and was disappointed with the team but extremely excited about the new hire.
Willie's game is all about transition and speed with a purpose. I talked to a former tiger and you can find articles with comments with former tigers and its blindly obvious even watching him with the texas stars, he promotes short passes and wants the forwards to breakout with speed in the offensive zone and attack with a strong forcheck.
Thats about the best i can do to sum up his style. Lots of shots, quick breakouts, and the forwards better be in shape because he expects them to break out with speed and establish a strong forcheck. He promotes a style that focuses mainly on constant attack, the defense will also be allowed to pinch. Its a high risk, high reward game, it will work as long as our players are in shape and buy in and skate back in a hurry to cover the defensive zone. The forwards wont be deep in the defensive zone like torts, but they better be ready to pinch and break out with speed when they get the puck.
I replied:
Sounds great to me, I'm a fan of this style of hockey. I just hope he's around for awhile since this current forward group doesn't exactly thrive off of the rush and transition game.
He replied:
That is my big worry imo, im worried if the sedins and others at this age can keep the pace of the game he expects his forwards to play. It looks exhausting im not going to lie. |

Off of the cycle..
Do you want 2 lines that prefer to cycle in Desjardins system or do you trust our current wingers enough to roll with Iggy and the Twins and then Bonino with 2 of Higgins/Hansen/Shinkaruk/Burrows/Kassian? |

I'd like to see the Canucks pick up a guy like Thomas Greiss. He put up some very respectable numbers but hasn't really been given a chance to fully showcase himself (and he's still fairly young at 28 but does have a decent amount of experience) His cap-hit the last few years has been minimal and I'm sure he could be signed for a nominal contract as well this year (since he'd like to prove himself and hopefully get the big coin to go along with that, next year)
He's quite an under-rated goalie but has been praised by quite a few of the hockey pundits. From what I've seen of him, he seems quite solid. It could also be a very positive aspect to seeing both Lack and Greiss push each other.
Edit: just think how much the Canucks would save instead of going with Miller, allowing them to make even more moves and address our other needs |
