So closer to 5 mllion to spend then? I think you can move on from your hopes of signing another big name UFA. Miller was a bad signing.
- Nucker101

If they trade Lack + Tanev for a young forward I can understand the signing. If they keep Lack as the backup, and then lose Markstrom on waivers I don't get it.

6.8 as far as I'm concerned. Have to count Luongo's 800K in on this decision.
- DrChristianTroy

I'm not as upset over this as everyone else, unless we were prepared to trade the entire core (and that would have never happened due to all the NTCs), we weren't going to be uncompetitive enough to get a top 3 pick to give us a chance at winning the lottery. Lack clearly wasn't in Linden/Benning's plans as their starter, so rather than waste assets trading for one (and in a soft goalie market especially after Gillis traded Schneider and Luongo in the same calendar year), it makes sense to get Miller for 3 years and give Lack a chance to develop without the pressure of being the go to guy.

We have several goalies now in the system (and drafted one that compares to Cory this year) who we can see if they would end up being better than Lack. The term is reasonable and if the dollars aren't, at least it doesn't cripple us like Luongo's deal would have. We still have plenty of cap space for Benning to make further signings and/or take on salary in trades with teams up against the cap.

Hiller was too much of a risk, Halak was signed almost immediately by NYI and there wasn't too much out there who could be relied upon to step up if/when Lack faltered.

Vey - 1.5
Kassian - 2.5
Tanev - 3.5

- LeftCoaster

Unless I'm missing something, there is no way Vey gets 1.5.

Funny how Minny is no longer bending over for him. His playoff performance (frank)ed him over. Could ave gotten a deal like Stastny with potentially more term.

Vey is a good pickup. Miller only makes sense to me if they trade Lack.

Sign Engelland, bad possession player so more shots for Miller.

Good job Benning. Making BOLD moves.

Solid goalchie for 3yrs only. enough time to let Lack, Markstrom, Ericsson percolate and build up their games.

Lack as backup to learn the ropes and Markstrom and Ericsson to help build a winning team in Utica.

If we need, we can move Miller at the deadline in a couple of years time.

You (frank)ers are never happy, you want the kids to play and grow but you don't want them to have support on the backend. YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO!!!!
