Oh yeah. I say sign more bad possession players, Miller played better on a sh*t team. |

You (frank)ers are never happy, you want the kids to play and grow but you don't want them to have support on the backend. YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO!!!!
- LeftCoaster
The amount of disguist shows me how little people in van know about hockey. I feel if we don't compete now, it's 7 years till we are a playoff team again. This puts us as a 5-10 team I feel that I'm more for making the playoffs & getting a chance. IMHO the Sedin contracts (frank) is more than the miller one does. |

Lack can't be the backup for three years and they'll lose one of Lack/Marstrom to waivers if they don't make a trade. Three years is two years too long for Miller, an average goalie at best. |

Miller has a NMC. (frank) this signing, we need goals. - Nucker101
We need stability in goal, Lack/Markstrom isn't going to be able to handle 82 games. It's this or overpay asset-wise for a starter in the trade market. I can see what the plan is for the next 4 years by Linden/Benning. Is it a great signing? No, but it's not crippling and it allows them to focus elsewhere. The plan is to build via the draft, but without a goalie, you're going to end up being the Oilers-lite, but without the talent they have (even if they can't figure out how to make it all work) |

I'm not as upset over this as everyone else, unless we were prepared to trade the entire core (and that would have never happened due to all the NTCs), we weren't going to be uncompetitive enough to get a top 3 pick to give us a chance at winning the lottery. Lack clearly wasn't in Linden/Benning's plans as their starter, so rather than waste assets trading for one (and in a soft goalie market especially after Gillis traded Schneider and Luongo in the same calendar year), it makes sense to get Miller for 3 years and give Lack a chance to develop without the pressure of being the go to guy.
We have several goalies now in the system (and drafted one that compares to Cory this year) who we can see if they would end up being better than Lack. The term is reasonable and if the dollars aren't, at least it doesn't cripple us like Luongo's deal would have. We still have plenty of cap space for Benning to make further signings and/or take on salary in trades with teams up against the cap.
Hiller was too much of a risk, Halak was signed almost immediately by NYI and there wasn't too much out there who could be relied upon to step up if/when Lack faltered. - DariusKnight
Miller is still a stud. I am not upset about this signing. We have the room and the need. Bringing in a guy like Miller opens a door to lure other needs that we have to fill in the line up. I would have liked to run with Lack but this is still a good signing regardless. |

Focus elsewhere with 6 million less. Good luck scoring goals. |

Speaking of understanding hockey, a team generally needs to score goals in order to win games. Speanding 6m per season upgrading an area that wasn't close to our most needed area for upgrading is a poor decision. Unless Miller scores goals as well that is.
Not to mention we now have 9.2m tied up in goalies and Lack will be 30 yrs old after Miller's 3 year term. I sense a trade coming... |

Miller is like Kesler, had one bright moment that created an unsustainable expectation. |
