Lack won't be a Canuck by the time Miller's gone.
- Nucker101

If they trade Lack + Tanev + for a young scorer I understand the deal. If they keep Lack it doesn't make any sense.

Obviously Miller/Lack is better, but in terms of value per dollar spent, it's not even close when comparing both.
- Nucker101

Like I said earlier, the season doesn't start tomorrow. What if no one wanted to sign here? Helps to add a veteran goaltender imo.

Robidas is a solid signing for the Leafs.

Those players have got to want to sign here, something lost on people sometimes.

I would rather the Canucks had done nothing on the FA market.

Bonino is supposed to be a skilled player, he's a better playmaker than Kesler. Vey is supposed to be a skill, pass-first player as well. I don't buy your argument that we should sign Miller because the playmaking isn't good enough to sign a scorer...
- Nucker101

And I don't buy your argument that our goaltending is good enough to be able to get a scorer who would likely demand more money and more term, putting us in the same position we were last year. If it was a longer term/money deal, then yes I'd be pissed, but it's reasonable, it stabilizes the crease long enough for the Canucks to develop scoring from within via draft and trades with cap crunched teams and gives our goalie prospects time to develop and no pressure to do so immediately. This is a move that allows us freedom to work on other areas without using assets in the short term. Lack is not going to be able to handle the load for 50+ games and I don't see a capable backup left in FA that could take over if he falters. Blame Gillis for screwing us over by trading Schneider, if we had him we'd be able to go all in on a Moulson or Vanek or whoever else.

EDIT: And obviously Vanek was never going to come here anyways seeing as Minny just signed him.

5-5.5 million at the most, yes.
- Nucker101

Unless they deal someone, which is entirely possible, or are they not allowed to do that now?

Vanek at 6.5 or Miller at 6?
Its okay everyone in the West is getting better and we're getting closer and closer to McDavid.

Miller must approve all trades.

They've got lots of money to spend and the team is better right now than it was this morning...bottom line.

Holy f@#$. Anyone care to continue defending the Miller signing?
- AlexF

What a waste of cap space. This year may not matter, but next year and the year after, the Canucks may want that six million

Why do you guys keep stating this as a fact? By that logic, there would never be any new starting goalies in the NHL. Lack turns 27 during next season...

I want to hear the details to the nmc.

Don't understand the cap hit and a nmc for a player that wanted to be as close to Hollywood as possible.

Okay, you are on the coast, you want a good chunk of money and a nmc? They at least should have got him a little cheaper and an annual list of 5 or so teams he could be traded to...

Sounds like Miller dictated the terms and it was old home week for Sabre alumni...

I believe that Lack could have handled 50+ starts, just not 15 starts in a row.

@motierney: As I see it, Miller fills two gaping holes in our lineup: the "aging, expensive goalie" hole and the "american with an ego problem" hole.

Lack will be 30 years old when Miller's contract is up. Generally, you kinda like being a No. 1 guy before you turn 30

- hillbillydeluxe

Yes, but generally you also don't get your first NHL start at 26. He was a late bloomer.

Then trade Daniel Sedin, you get an extra million in cap space.

I disagree. But you're right, the season doesn't start tomorrow, and if there are more moves to be made then things could be different.
