I have to say, it does get really old when every single GM goes up there and spews the same BS about thanking the city and congratulating the winner of the Cup. Just get your ass up there, say who you want, and move on.

Oh I agree they're a good team, my not liking them is more of heritage thing then anything else. But I won't deny they're a contender for sure. |

I am not saying this has a chance of happening. I believe we have a zero percent chance for players such as Richards, Vanek, Stastny and Volchenkov. I am merely asking if this happened, which realistically would be the strongest FA class the sabres could bring in, do they make the playoffs??
IMO realistic money and terms for the following players:
Thomas Vanek 52.5m/7y
Paul Stastny 56m/7y
Brad Richards 30m/5y
Anton Volchenkov 28.5/6y
Tyler Ennis 17m/4y
Brooks Orpik 9m/2y
Marcus Foligno 3.5m/2y
Martin Havlat 4m/1y
*Drew Stafford traded for a pick, while we retain 50% salary.*
Lineup
FORWARDS
Thomas Vanek ($7.500m) / Paul Stastny ($8.000m) / Martin Havlat ($4.000m)

Ok, ok.....I think he gave away a good player for nothing. Hopefully there is a method to the madness. - Homer
I have to admit that I was shocked they bought him out. But I do like that he didn't walk away from the reason he did it. I would think his moves have been turning heads within the players in the league and more importantly the players on the team. |

The method was to ensure that they aren't handcuffed by his contract later on down the road. He pretty much wanted a clean slate.
It's about as clean as it could possibly be at this point. - HonkFortheGoose
I know, I know.....I'm not torn up about it, but not singing his praises for it either. |

Ehrhoff didn't make it a secret that he wanted out. It was obvious to the most casual of fan that he wasn't happy here.
In many ways I would have preferred for him to put his big boy pants on and play to his full capabilities. He's just as responsible for signing that 10 year deal as Darcy is for giving it out. He should have honored it and played the way we know he can.
In other ways, I'm glad that we don't have to worry about being handcuffed by the penalty the league decided to impose waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy after they approved of these deals. |

Making room for better more productive ones ? I know if the boss starts clearing house . it's time to step up your game unless you want out. Seems Hoff wanted out and made out like a bandit . |

It also makes it hard to sign any new vets because they would have no chance of winning a cup or even making the playoffs unless they signed a 3 year contract. Which TM said he didn't really want to do. I think it is going to be a hard sell to get the vets we need to teach the youngins. Unless we give them double the pay they should be getting. And that really isn't what we should be touting. |

I think some people are forgetting this. The "just keep him" option that Schopp kept going on about, wasn't really an option |

Hmm....I didn't think he played that poorly last year actually. He was arguably our best defenseman. Yes, I know, that isn't saying much.
Most vets probably want out here.
IDK, like I said, don't love the move, don't necessarily hate it either. |
