Apparently players take less money in Florida because theres no job tax. I was schooled on that thought today. That's why the corpse of willie Mitchell gets 2 years at 4.25 - Just5
yeah that deal is pretty crummy value |

If Laughton has those wingers, he puts up 50 points minimum. |

Nice to see all the free agent defensemen not named Engelland & Orpik got together today and collectively decided to take discounts. |

Willie Mitchell is a pretty solid defensive defenseman.

If Niskanen really passed up 7 x $7M state income tax-free, for $5.75M x 7... he must have REALLY wanted to play w/ OV. |

Two defenseman took discounts. Ehrhoff and Niskanen. What today pretty much showed is that all the comments that the MacDonald contract was a bad contract were erroneous. |

Reading on some other sites, I am absolutely SHOCKED at the vitriol people are spewing towards the Emery signing of all things.

I don't understand this either. I was pretty happy to have him back at that price. |

With Hartnell out, we lose one Power Play specialist for the Penalty Killer we didn't have last season. |

What I learned is we could have never apparently signed Stralman for 4.5 per bc of the job tax. And the Flyers were damn smart to unload a 2nd and a 3rd to lock in Macdonald at market value for that great playoff run. |

Yup. You were right all along. MacDonald would have got 6+ million today. |

Why? That's dumb. If the flyers stay out of the box more like they plan to he'll be fine. |

I think MacDonald is a little better, so MacDonald. And the contracts are slotted right there. Stralman got a little less a year.

Not saying I agree with trading those picks, but Flyers dont make the playoffs without MacDonald. Which is not a bad thing IMO. |

Imagine if the Flyers had waited until yesterday to re-sign him...several comparable guys got more friendly deals today.
Although one could argue signing MacDonald also kept them out of the Orpik race. |

One good thing about Amac is how well Schenn responded to playing with him. Who knows if Stralman would have the same impact. Honestly I don't know which would be better which is why I'm not a GM.

Well at least we've moved off of the tunnel vision view of Holmgren screwed up. Now we've moved onto putting words in people's mouths and attributing false statements to them! Well done
I've been consistent in my statements on MacDonald and the deal the Flyers signed him to. The Flyers got him for market value.

The Caps and Sabres?
Chicago got Brad Richards for nothing - PhillySportsGuy
Chicago was already a good team. The Sabers on the other hand have been terrible along time and it's amazing anyone wanted to go there at all. |
