Man in charge doesn't seem to think it's going to be easy:
How easy is it going to be to clear some cap space?
"It’s not going to be easy. I think a lot of people filled up today and that’s always what happens July 1. It’s not going to be easy. We’ll continue to chip away and work away, and we’ll find a way. - Tomahawk
at least he is honest.
i dont think the team necessarily wants to dump amac though. i really do think they could though, if they tempered expectations for the return. i guarantee hed have gotten a comparable deal today. someone would move at least minimal considerations for him. granted, that would be bad asset management by the flyers.
i think someone would take grossmann for like a fourth. hed be easier to move than (frank)ing scuderi.
vinny. yeah. |

He couldn't possibly be any worse than he was this year, right?
Keeping him isn't ideal, but after his next $2M bonus is paid out, the market for him should expand by a good bit. - Tomahawk
I think there will be a market for him now.
His actual salary is $14.5 over 4 years, a very manageable $3.62mm per year. He scored twenty goals and that was in a down season. Even if he is a black hole of possession, he still can score goals.
This summer saw a slew of offensive centers on the market. Stastny, Richards, Spezza all moved. There were teams after them that missed out who may well turn to Vinny as a plan B.
Granted, they can't make a bad deal just to get rid of him. Far better to risk a buy out situation next summer than make a deal that has them eating half his cap for 4 years. |

I see your point, but Hextal has to establish himself in trade negotiations. He blinks too early on VL then sharks are in the water. I am OK at this point with what's happening, albeit with no clue with what's going on outside the public view. - jstross
He gave Vinny's agent permission to hunt down a trade...I'd say he's past blinking at this point. |

id prefer to view your second paragraph as a sign that pretty much all of the potential buyers have already met their quota

not necessarily. you could look at like vinny's not happy with his role etc...and wants to find a better situation. let the agent do the heavy lifting. "go out and find yourself a place to play". |

I think Hexy slow playing his hand with Vinny has been the right approach. I gotta believe teams view Vinny as a better option then Roy.

It'll be perfect timing as my son should just be getting old enough to appreciate having a good team to watch... in the meantime, his dad suffers. |

Nashville tried to get Spezza, The isles were supposedly kicking tires on Richards.
I honestly didn't expect Vinny to get traded today. Other teams were going to go after other options first. Those options are more or less exhausted, unless they want to pay the price for Thornton. |

Blinking was in terms of trading Vl and assets versus getting assets in return. |

I don't think he had a choice. Vinny wasn't anyone's first choice. But now, the choices have thinned out. |

Yeah, my first post actually mentioned that they can't make a deal where they give up too much or eat too much salary. If the deal is Vinny and a 2nd for future considerations, yeah, walk away, keep him.

I think the Preds would have taken him already if the Flyers ate half of his salary, especially after Spezza said no thanks. Hexy is just waiting for some team to take on his entire salary especially since the roster bonus has been paid. |

I would, too. But you know and I know there's teams out there that see those 20 goals and might roll the dice. |

I think Hextall would only eat $1mm or so. Anything more than that and you may as well just buy him out. |

You really think Grabovski wants to take that much of a discount below $5 million/yr he was just earning. He might take a one year prove it contract, or could even bolt for the KHL

of course. even if it's not public, the whole league knows. if not the agent, then just himself, and he's on the horn looking for a deal. i think very little is kept all that secret amongst the gm's.
and just because you're looking for a dancing partner doesn't mean you're going to bend over without lube. |

Absolutely not. Said that from the get go. You have to draw a line at some point. My very first post on the topic said that. Somehow it's been missed. |

I was wondering... if we trade kimmo at the trade deadline, and he reaches his bonus clauses, whos cap does it effect next year? philly or the team we trade him too? |

i didn't see that. i've been skimming all day. i think hextall is going to prove to be quite shrewd. he'll make mistakes, but i have a lot of faith in him. he won't just give him away. if he can't find the right deal, he'll keep him and roll with it. he's essentially said that already. and i'm fine with that. i'm willing to give him another year and hopefully he stays healthy. |
