A lot can happen between now and game 1 of the next season but we are looking at scoring even less now...clearly.

The only thing I like about the Miller signing is that the Canucks will surely get something for him before his contract is up. Otherwise, the Canucks look like they are preparing for a strategy of winning games with scoring fewer goals.

The Canucks still dont have a future #1 C in the pipeline.

I guess next off season will be better. Benning can only do so much this summer. The Canucks are not a better team than last season as of yet. Lost both our top scoring forward and D man. They had to go but not replacing the production would look like Benning is with tank nation.

Hes has done a bunch. People can like it or not he has put his stamp on this team.

Not trolling....I just don't think Miller will be the answer.

*and before I get attacked I know the Flames have a long way to go.

Speaking of bad goalie acquisitions, didnt you boys pick up Hiller?

I think the Miller signing probably hurt them on that front. I think Lack as a starter would have been popular. Huge fan favourite

Until they get a proper top six forward group there is no "answer".

I think the team can actually be better by subtraction. Not with Garrison, but with Kesler for his attitude. Maybe with Garrison for his poor defensive play last season?

Happy with the job so far but expect more in the coming days/months

Some more light may be shed later in the offseason on what their thinking is, but if we roll into next year with this roster all I can do is scratch my head

When I think of Torts' system I don't really think of forced turnovers. More like wasted efforts
- bezz44

The beginning of the season was an up tempo, two man forecheck trying to force turnovers, but with the caveat that everyone must be in shape because when you go two deep and you miss you have to hustle to get back and block a shot.

I had to slow down, oldest is out of school for the summer. I'm lucky now to sneak in a round a week.

Not only that, the 10 players he played were on the ice every 2nd shift.

Yes, that too. What I'm suggesting is that Torts awful system and WDs awesome system don't sound that different to me without having seen them both in action.

EDIT - if both coaches have a "system" that doesn't fit the players then is one really better than the other? For the record, I really liked what I heard from WD at the presser.

I think more neutral zone/defensive zone aggression (which I think is WD's gameplan?) allows us to maintain more puck possession, which is I think what this team is built for. Dump and chase doesn't really utilize this team's strengths

If Torts was still coach they would have hired Hamelin and Ohno to fit his system.

We're gonna have to keep talking about this for a while aren't we? Can't we just sweep it under the rug and never discuss the decisions?

Willie's has to be better than Torts. I think everyone on here felt the same about Torts but gave him a chance. It didn't work out.
