And pre-breakout Riley Smith.
- AlexF

Good point. I missed that somehow . The difference is that Tyler Seguin was a top 10 league scorer last year, which puts him in a whole other echelon of players

So we trade the rights of 2 UFA's?
- PetrolSexual

I am saying we have a lack of scoring issue so why trade for a dman?

Especially if it is a dman with 1 year left until ufa?

Why even consider trading one of the few ready to play youngsters, Jensen, who has shown a bit of a scoring touch (want to see more), for a dman when we don't need more dmen?

I guess the reason we didn't qualify Schroeder or Dalpe is because qualifying offers have to be on one way contracts? If not, I don't know why we let them go when we could of had them in Utica for depth.

I think our D & goaltending is more than set. It's the offense that will be painful to watch next season. Bring in a 1st time NHL head coach with a north/south vision & make the only legit top 6 players on his roster east/west vets who are too slow to adapt... That'll end well!

No doubt. Not crying over spilled milk but I was quite adamant that Gillis trade for Seguin last summer when I heard he was on the block. Talent like that just doesn't get made available often. The attitude problems of a 19 or 20 year old are easily dealt with when handled in the right way.

That would have been such an amazing pickup. At the time I bet they would have done Kes for Seguin+

We should have gone after Brodeur. Probably score more goals than Burr this year

To be a fly on the wall and hear current roster evaluations and the game plan for the next few seasons.

It will take a while for me to accept the trade for Miller. Still trying to understand Benning. He has a plan or vision on how to build a team.

I am still not sure how much he knows first hand of the Canucks play last year and if he watched a lot of game tape.

I guess Benning just has more confidence with Miller than a "rookie". And I think if it was a different position, it may be different.

Anyway, with Jensen, I hope it isn't throwing the baby out with the bath water with the regime change. It would really highlight the failure in drafting (games played by Canuck draftee's ), ignoring the Horvat/Shink draft, of the previous regime.

Number one reason we are in a position that we HAVE to add scoring thru free agency or trade market. There's absolutely no push from within the organization like the Anaheim's or San Jose's or Los Angeles Kings of the Western Conference.

How many kids could they have drafted and didn't, I know teams passed on these kids but some didn't....that's the point. Fun to look back for discussion purposes.

2009 - Round 1&2 picked Schroeder/Rodin, missed - Marcus Johansson, Ryan O'Reilly, Kyle Palmieri, Kyle Clifford, Alex Chaisson, Jakob Silfverberg, Robin Lehner, Tomas Tatar. 3rd round Tyson Barrie, Reilly Smith were missed.
2010 - Round 1&2 picked...traded for Keith Ballard & Steve Bernier - Evgeny Kuznetsov, Emerson Etem, Charlie Coyle & Brock Nelson all taken right after our pick at 25.

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. Our need the last few years has been scoring.

I thought our present and future goaltending was set, especially if we brought in a vet backup. And not forgetting Cannata and Eriksson in Utica could still develop into good tenders.

If we don't pick up a top 6, could we make the playoffs with Sedins, Bonino, Kassian, up front with Jensen, Burrows and maybe Shinkaruk all taking turns?
This sounds like a bigger gamble than running with Lack as the #1?

I am still unsure of how Kassian will play with more ice time.

If a team says every year their goal is to win the cup, I don't see it without the goal scoring. Maybe Benning doesn't see it without an established goalie. Last year's missing the playoffs can't be blamed on Lack and that should be obvious.

What did we have to give up for him that was comparable to what Dallas gave up?

No arguments. We traded away too many picks and screwed up the picks we kept.

A little sad to see Dalpe and Schroeder just walk. Dalpe looked good at times but Torts mind fracked him.

Anyway, It was nice to see Jensen show some flashes at the end of last season. I want to see Kassian given the opportunity to play in the top 6. If Burrows can get back on track with the Twins and score some goals- then we didn't need that ufa.

Could you see Bonino with Kassian and Jensen or Shinkaruk as a second line that could score and be responsible defensively? Or would they be eaten alive?

I'm assuming these are all 2 way contracts?

Is Benning offering anything to Santorelli?

#Bruins would like to trade some roster players to free up cap space for younger players they want signed. Marchand, Boychuk, Kelly #NSS

Shinkaruk no, but I hope I'm wrong, I just think he needs some playing time in the AHL to work his way onto the team. That said, I think Bonino can score 15-20, and Kassian can score 20, not to mention I think given a full season Jensen can score 15.
