I don't like the signing because we could have quite easily had competitive goaltending if we had signed someone like Hiller to two years as a safety net for Lack. Unless Lack is on his way out or Miller is fine with being a backup in year 2 or 3 then this is a very shortsighted signing

I never really understood the Hiller love....he's cheaper but I dont' think he's anywhere near the goalie. Pretty mediocre save% on much better teams the last few years.

I like Lack's personality, still not sure if he's a future #1 though, obviously mgmt doesn't feel he is at the moment which is why they got miller.

Can someone explain to me why goalie coaches teach how to be a goalie only 1 way?

i.e. Miller plays goal different than Melanson wants goalies to play so can he adapt to Melanson's coaching

Shouldn't you coach to a players strengths? You aren't going to turn Russell Wilson into a dropback pocket passer or Peyton Manning into a running QB. You coach to their strengths.

AV used to start the Sedins in the offensive zone and Malhotra in the defensive zone because it played to their strengths. Torts tried to turn the Sedins into 2 way players and we saw how that worked out.

Hiller is decent, which would give Lack a chance to hold the reins with a bit of leeway. If you don't think he will be a number one you trade him now because a 30 year old backup is not worth a whole lot

4.5 is crazy as a backup though. That being said, there were other options.
