I only added Rinaldo as an option because I doubt they'll send him to the AHL for the season. But I would. |

He is no longer waiver exempt I believe. And he's right on that line that I think someone would pick him up if we waived him. No idea what's going to happen to him. If it's not obvious with Lavi gone I think Rinaldo is going to have to seriously play well in training camp to keep a spot in this line-up. |

They could do that. But they also lose out on the player if he decides to go elsewhere. The same way the lost out when they let Carle go. And lost out on Suter and Weber. - MJL
Then they could make an offer to Stralman or someone else.
I think they would have gotten Amac for the deal he signed in the Spring if he was UFA yesterday, but who knows, he could have ended up somewhere else.
I don't think they would have had a chance with Ehrhoff though. He clearly took a discount because he likes the situation in Pitt. |

There's no guarantee that they could've gotten any of the top free agent defenseman available. That's the risk, and that's why teams trade for a player they have targeted early. I'd like them to keep the picks also. But I understand why they do it. |

So...you HAVEN'T seen the pages full of jokes on here? - jmatchett383
I have a feeling you have someone and/or somewhere in mind?? - jak521
Jokes are much different from harsh criticism, especially when he's one of our own. If I remember right, Ray Emery was judged harshly by most of because of his time spent in Ottawa. Then the rumours began of him possibly signing here in 2010. Nobody here wanted him. Emery coming close to attacking a training in Russia caught on film didn't help. I wanted Emery even back then. He was young, his fire reminded me of Hextall and if you let him, he'll clear his own crease. The Carter and Richards "Dry Island" was an interesting time. A lot of divided feelings here. Was Laviolette the bad guy for suggesting or were Carter and Richards the bad guys because the team always looked bad during weekend matinee games? We only see how we as true Flyers fans feel about a player when they've never worn the Orange and Black at all. Nothing wrong with this, just pointing this trend out. |

I understand the rationale behind it also.
Just the way their farm system is right now, I think the practice of adding picks to these type of deals should be used in rare situations.
I am hoping the new GM acts this way in the future.
He seems to have a 3-5 year plan in mind which is great.
I guess we'll see what happens. |

As far as the farm system is concerned. A big topic of conversation in the past has been the lack of defense prospects. Now look at it, it's stacked. Things can change quickly in Hockey.
I don't see Hextall's plan as a 3-5 year plan. I think you can both try and win now, and keep the prospect pipeline going. You don't sacrifice one for the other. But Hextall is going to do what he feels is right to do both. |
