Or you bought a product that you thought you would like, and then found out later that you don't like it. You have mismanaged your money? - MJL
Or you get drunk and go home with a girl that's really hot, then wake up in the morning and find she's hideous, is that sperm/condom mismanagement? |

I'd pass on all of them. Ranger is not a guy I would mind taking a chance on because maybe he can find his game again. But I'm not removing Grossmann to do that.

I'm not sure what the question was, but is this a list of players the Flyers should consider non-entities? Those are 4 terrible (as of now) players. |

So basically, what you are saying is that any time I go out and buy something I think is a good product, but it turns out to be the wrong product or that product breaks or is defective, I have mismanaged my money? - MBFlyerfan
If you routinely buy stuff pushing up against its best-before date, and a couple of those items go bad, yeah, I'd say you bear some responsibility for that, and it might be reasonably construed as mismanagement. |

In his defense, the "Best Used By" dates on milk can be misleading. |

But again, that's not cap mismanagement. Want an example of cap mismanagement. If the Flyers are stuck with a 1.5M bonus overage for next year from Timonen. I consider that cap mismanagement. Because you've spent more then your allotment for the year, and have to go in dept in the future.

And a best used by date is different for every gallon of milk. And is unknown at the time of purchase.

I disagree. They needed to get Kimmo here for another year, and deferring $1.5M of his cost till next season when the cap will be higher and only having $2M count this year when things are really tight was a smart move.
Kimmo could have got one year, $5+ million as a FA based on what we saw yesterday. |

Bringing Timonen back was a smart move, and I agree that they needed him. But having dead space on the cap is never a smart move. I like that they have Timonen back. But I don't like the potential for the overage.

It's 1.5M in bonuses. And it will only be deferred if they can't fit it in this year.

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Status Quo, Quick Hits - bmeltzer
I'm really not liking what I'm seeing so far. Hextall tells the story of going to a GM meeting and telling them that his team needs cap relief, so he makes a deal that really doesn't do that. In fact I'm not in favour of trading for a contract that probably should exist right now for a player that isn't worth the price tag he's wearing. Sure the term is much shorter but you have three years to worry about three years from now. If you need cap relief right now, get cap relief right now. I don't know, maybe this sounds nuts.
I personally feel like he should have left the team alone and only filled the hole next to Read and Couturier, while replacing Hall with Laughton.I feel Hextall created a lot of expectations when it got out that he wanted to move Lecavalier. Maybe it would have been best that he lied, said Lecavalier is a Flyer and looked for takers quietly.
I really don't think our team needed very many changes, just a few tweeks.
The last two offseasons that featured signing like Geoff Sanderson, Randy Robitaille, Michal Han f zus for Kyle Calder and then Bruno Gervis and the return of Ruslan Fedotenko, it was obvious to me we weren't making the playoffs those two summers. Our GM needs to be a little faster at pulling the trigger or else our season will shape out exactly how I just discribed.
Lecavalier for Upshall so we can have cap space in a year to me isn't gonna cut it for me. |

IMO it's only cap mismanagement if you don't plan accordingly for the overage. I think it gives them flexibility to either include the bonus this year so nothing is deferred, or use that space this year and just plan for the extra 1.5M next year. It really isn't that much right? |

I think some of the hangups here simply stem from how we define or use certain terms. Yea, I'd consider buying a lousy product mismanagement of my money. Had I invested all my money in Enron all those years ago… I didn't manage my money well. I say misspend, someone else says I misread all the business speak and there were signs it wasn't a good idea. In the end, the result is the same no matter how it's framed. No one intentionally misspends on anything, but it happens. |

What does planning accordingly to the overage mean? In order to avoid the overage they have to do two things. Keep Pronger off of LTIR, which is a reduction in usable cap space of 4.9M this year. And have the ability to carry Timonen's full 1.5M bonus money on this years cap. Which is another reduction of 1.5M of cap space for this year that has to go to that.
1.5M is 1.5M. If the cap goes up 5M, it only goes up 3.5M for the Flyers. |

Added general manager Ron Hextall, "It’s an important thing. I’ve been on teams where the goalies don’t get along and sometimes it can divide the team and it’s not a good working relationship. - Bill Meltzer
I wonder if that happened during his time in Philly. |
