its a shame, because they have some really good pieces. if spezza and hemsky both decide to take their act there, they are a playoff team. if not, damn close. - stayinthefnnet
I still think they should be patient. I know they have Weber and want to win now, but Jones has #1 defenseman potential in a few years. Just keep collecting offensive assets and they could be a Western power in 3-4 years. |

With all the cap space burning a hole in their pockets, what's this second tier bullpoop? - PLindbergh31
This is the same as when you and others told me the other day that the Flyers have no cap space to sign free agents. Now here we are and the Flyers have spent 2.25M to this point on free agents. And you're hear to call something bullpoop again! The Flyers still have some cap space to use.

i still think they need to somehow hit on a first line center. its damn near impossible to be a contender without one.
and theyre usually never bad enough to pick that high.
not saying its the only way, but it helps. |

He can easily be a 20 goal player on this team, and add some speed |

i always thought mcginn was a decent tweener guy. but a third isnt bad for him. - stayinthefnnet
McGinn had chances last year and didn't play well. Sucks that Talbot was given away for what turned out to be nothing. Guy was a perfect 4th line player. Who needs Talbot when you have Rosehill and Rinaldo. |

I dont really dislike anything Berube has done other than the Hartnell trade. I'm willing to wait and see on that one though.
Flyers are finally playing FA the way you should. If you have the money to go after the big fish like Ehrhoff, then do it, but if not, then wait things out for the bargains. - PhillySportsGuy
yeah.
its crazy. downie, goc, and comeau all for the same as engellend.
i still think somehow his deal got (frank)ed up in translation.
2.9 for three years. okay got it....
wait, was that total or per? (frank) it, its not my money |

i always will love talbot, so im definitely biased.
i thought it was robbery on his part to get the deal you guys gave him originally. but within a years time, hes essentially right on par. hell, if not underpaid.
and he absolutely was great the first year. |

I meant to say Hexy instead of Berube, but you got the point.
It's Brian Burke who signed Engelland. YOU CAN NEVER OVERPAY FOR TRUCULENCE! |

If he plays with G he can. You can say that for a lot of players though.
Like I said, I like him as a value buy. If he's still around and looking for a one year 'show me' deal, I would be very interested. |

Talbot's play was in decline, and they knew they had a player in Raffl that was close to being ready to replace Talbot. It was a good move to trade him for Downie. Unfortunately, Downie got hurt and was never the same after. Nobody could predict that.

They had a deal for Spezza, he just vetoed it because he didn't want to be in Nashville.
Very difficult to recruit FA talent there. - PhillySportsGuy
True but that's part of the problem, a little surprised spezza nixed that deal to be honest |

I agree. Maybe they can accrue the necessary assets to make a move for a #1 center without giving up Jones or Weber |

I thought the Talbot contract from day one was fine. Now it's a real bargain.
Very useful player. Good PK player, can chip in a goal every once in a while. Every good team needs a player like Talbot. |

i think thats how you have to win at free agency these days. give him 1 year for say 1.2 mil or something. hope he catches fire and pots 20. then he moves on. a la raymond this past year.
okay. in all seriousness. you have a 1.5 million dollar deal on the table. seto on one end and heatley on the other. which way do you push the pen? |

No doubt. I don't know if you were around, but there was a big discussion on Flyers cap space. And I was told that the Flyers had no cap space and couldn't sign any free agents. I was given Hextall quotes and all. Now here we are, and the Flyers have spent 2.25M and counting in free agency without trading a single player expected to be on the roster for the season. Other then the Hartnell?Umberger deal. Which cleared little cap space. Something like 200K.
