Gudbranson is like a poor mans version of Coburn - PhillySportsGuy
I was going to say a much younger less expensive version with a Right handed shot. |

As a "hockey trade" I don't like the Hartnell/Umberger trade, but I understand it for what it is. - jmatchett383
I still don't completely understand it. I find it strange that Umberger was the best return they could have gotten. |

From listening to Hextall I think it gets done too. Trying to read into the quotes and I have a hard time believing he's back next year.
Not sure if Stalberg is the piece coming back. I'm not really thrilled about that piece. I would just as easily take a couple 3rd rounders or something. - Just5
This is one of Hextall's quotes
“We’ve got nothing imminent on Vinny,” Hextall said. “We’ll keep looking at the situation, and like I said, deal with it internally, and if there’s something to report we’ll get it back to you guys, but as far as I’m concerned right now, Vinny Lecavalier could be in a Flyer uniform in September.”

I'm very weary of those top 10 picks who are defensive defenseman. I feel they're overhyped because of where they were drafted. If he was a 2nd round pick, would you feel the same about him? |

I know what you're saying, but I guess I just don't see it as that big of a deal. They aren't in the realm of what Boston did. And I bet Boston will still be ok this season because they have a solid core that is all inked up. You also say quite often that the Flyers can clear space whenever they want by making moves. If a top Dman was available, they'd just go all Yzerman and clear whatever they needed to make it happen right? - eayost
I don't think it's a huge deal either. But I'm just saying if we want to look at Cap mismanagement, I think that's an example of it.

Yes...but he's not nearly as good.
Just because you're younger, cheaper, and right handed doesn't mean you should be considered to replace the Flyers' best defenseman. |

I'd like picks, too, as a pure dump, but I think we're taking something back. If not Stalberg, something similar. - jmatchett383
Gaustad. Which would suck, but at least he's a good 4th line piece. 2 more years on that deal |

If you trade Coburn for youth, the youth better have REALLY high potential |

Do you think it's possible that it was the best return they could get, outside of eating salary on Hartnell's deal or dealing picks with him? I doubt Hextall is completely clueless |

Valid.... But even if he pans out to be Erik Johnson like... I'm OK with that... Especially with the cap savings and the fact he aligns agewise with our young forwards.
I don't think this team is going very far this season so thinking more near future than right now. |

Erik Johnson like would be fantastic, but he's shown no signs of developing towards that. That's like making a trade for a name/pick more than a player. |

I know he's not clueless. I just think he wanted Hartnell gone and had a soft spot for Umberger. |

Quick question for the cap crowd:
Could Grossmann have been CBO'ed? |

I understand what you're saying. Its very risky though. Gudbranson hasn't shown the offensive ability to think he could be a 35-40 point producer.
I'm, also, not willing to concede the season, which is what we'd be doing if we traded Coburn for Gudbranson. A top pair of Timonen-AMac isn't going to work. |

Although few details were immediately available, a source said Giroux was arrested for repeatedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer. Alcohol is believed to have been involved.

That's the bit that got me. I would hope alcohol was involved. And a wager...a big one.
