I wouldn't mind giving MDZ a try. Granted he's a mess in his own end, but he can skate, and has some offense to his game. It would give the Flyers blueline a bit more diversity. Too much redundancy right now on the backend. - PLindbergh31
Need to move two defenseman IMO. Grossmann is one and you can pick whoever else. |

ok.
the idea of an enforcer in today's game is a bit silly and antiquated. i'd rather have just about any other available legit 4th liner than rosehill. i miss the blair betts of the world. - hammarby31
I think a reasonable point of view can be made for both sides of that coin. I don't think having an enforcer is either silly or antiquated. Quite a few teams still use one. But the need for one is certainly far less than it used to be, and I don't think it is a absolute neccessity. If Rosehill makes the team, it will be as the 13th forward, and not a regular. |

And let's not forget.
"This entire thing might be overlooked had the Flyers won the Stanley Cup and everyone was celebrating somewhere when this happened, but this is July and the Flyers were eliminated months ago and there was nothing to celebrate on the day free agency opened, especially, given the Flyers salary cap situation."
Not only was it douche baggary but uninformed douchebaggery. My last comment on it was a flaming bag of poo. Maybe next year Claude should take Tim up to OTT for Canada Day, you know that thing Canadians celebrate on oh? July 1st?
Btw kudos to Bill on his writing on both the handling of Giroux and 15 month old daughter! - Consequence

He would fit right in then. Flyers have the most overpaid and overvalued talent on defense. The overall group isn't very good. |

Del Zotto isn't half the player that MacDonald is in my opinion. And how does the contract look worse by the day? If anything after the first few days of free agency, it shows that the deal is market value, and fair for both sides. |

I would be fine moving any of them to be honest. Nothing that resembles a # 1. |

The MacDonald contract looks worse because we don't have the cap space to sign MDZ, a player the defense experts in Nashville didn't even bother to qualify? |

The term isn't very good IMO. Your locked in for six years at 5M per. McDonald isn't a 5M dollar player IMO.
I would rather have Niskanen, Boyle, and Erhoff at their current deals then McDonald. |

No not at all.
I was asking if he would be interested in Del Zotto. Nothing to do with McDonald. I just don't think hes a $5M dollar per year player. That's a total overpayment IMO. |

i just don't see the value any longer. i understand he's a 13th guy. still not a very good hockey player. |

Rangers should've also signed Brad Richards for 2 mil a year like Chicago did. Maybe they wouldn't have had to buy him out if they did. |

Odds you would have gotten Erhroff on that contract = zero.
Odds you would have gotten Boyle = very slim because he wanted to play in NY and turned down more money/term from Detroit. He's also 38, coming off a terrible concussion, and is a PP specialist who needs to be sheltered like Streit.
Niskanen - Flyers would have had to outbid Washington, something like 7 years at $6 million, making the cap situation even tighter. |

Ehrhoff wouldn't come to the Flyers for that deal. He took a big discount due to having the buyout in his pocket, and went to a team that he wanted to play for. No interest in Boyle. I wouldn't mind Niskanen over MacDonald.
What is the basis for saying that MacDonald isn't a 5M player? |

He's a good enough hockey player to fill the 13th forward role. |

At the time they extended McDonald did anyone know those players would be UFA's?

They would have money if they didn't overvalue and overpay their players. Just look at the contracts. Now I know why I don't come on this site anymore. Tunnel vision. Enjoy your day. |
