Hexy has some leverage in negotiations because what is left in free agency is debatable if the player is better then Vinny. Also, these smaller or middle level teams really need playoff revenue to break even or a show a profit at the end of they year. Vinny can help these clubs position themselves better to make the playoffs considering what is already on their roster.
So how long is a GM going to negotiate with Hexy to potentially save that $2 million on Vinny's salary, when not acquiring him could cost the club probably over $10 million in gate revenue from 2 or 3 home playoff games at least. - ravishingone
I think some of the problem is that some of these teams have internal budgets for the roster.

Hextall has zero leverage, he needs to shed salary, teams know this and will wait him out until he does something stupid or starts the season with a disgruntled veteran

Understandable, but as posted earlier Vinny's actual salary is $3.6 million. His "real" dollar salary actually is pretty fair to his production. The term can be a concern, but also mentioned earlier when Scott Gomez was traded to Mtl with his term and salary. It just takes one. |

I wouldn't feel bad that you didn't make it. Lots of people have failed. I never entertained the thought. - MJL
my comment wasn't about me. and i don't feel bad about not making it...especially given where and when i grew up. i've experienced my own level of success and that's enough. honestly, i don't have the mental makeup to be a pro - forget the physical ability - because i'm so intense and my own worst critic...it's a tough place to live in as a goalie. i'm still fuming about what happened in last night's game, and it's (frank)ing beer league. being a pro would have eaten me alive. |

What's Vinny going to do sit and pout at the end of the bench and not pick up his stick? The disgruntled veteran angle is little over dramatic. Granted, he probably won't be thrilled with his role. However, cashing his pay check should help alleviate his frustration.

I guess Legwand is the final shoe to drop as far as the center puzzle goes? I think Ottawa is interested, not sure if Detroit wants him back.
Hextall will not give up a pick in this situation I'm pretty confident of that. |
