Good for him maybe he gets a shot there - Just5
Never understood why he didn't get a shot here. Maybe he didn't take enough penalties. |

Nope. If Holmstrom was going to Sharp, he'd have done it by now. But I've always felt he could be a solid 4th liner on a small money deal who could be used on the PK or taking draws.
And if anyone is complaining about the McGinn trade...hoo boy. Getting a 3rd rounder for an AHL bubble winger? |

Yeah, not seeing that. Sharp, even when he was a Flyer, was involved and didn't disappear. McGinn had stretches where they may as well have dressed 11 forwards, because he did nothing. |

If he stays, I want to play him with linemates that are better at controlling the play. Schenn and Simmonds are talented players, but they're not a great fit with Vinny at 5 on 5. I'd try Voracek with him, because Jake can lug the puck up ice, control it in the zone, has good vision and generally when he's on the ice, the Flyers are generally spending more time in the opponent's end of the ice than not.
Of course, I've been advocating splitting Giroux and Voracek for most of the off season, because they are the two most dynamic offensive players the Flyers have. So my other option would be to put Vinny on Giroux's RW, where he can become, for lack of a better term, the shooter. He likes going to the high slot on the RW side, Giroux can find him for one timers and I think he could be comfortable there. - Jsaquella
If you want vinny at RW. Who else gets bumped out of position? Simmonds can barely play an even game at 5v5 at his natural RW spot |

Considering he was a fourth-rounder who just wasn't able to stay in the lineup, I'm thrilled they got a third for him.
Makes next year's draft picture that much brighter

I'd move Simmonds to Couturier's line, Voracek with Schenn. |

Can only go off what you see and what the stats tell you. During one call up, McGinn went 3 or 4 games without a shot. For what he brings to the table, that's not going to work |

Were you thinking Raffl on the left, since it appears they prefer Read with Couturier? |

It'd almost have to be him or Umberger. |

FWIW, a couple of Sens blogger types tweeted that Dreger said he feels Lecavalier will be traded this weekend, but not to Ottawa.
I haven't seen Dreger tweet it, or anyone else mention it, so take it for what it is worth. |

Hope Raffl comes back ready to rock...it'd be nice if he didn't "sophomore slump" and actually popped 20 goals |

I can't even guess where that would be. Nashville could still use him, but I agree that there's a limit to what you retain in salary. He's still getting 20 goals for you or someone else |

Me, personally, I'd have him on the third line with Couturier & Umberger. But that's just me |

Exactly. The absolute most I'd be OK with would be $1.5-$1.75mm and that would be a trade where I got an asset for him. If I'm tossing in a pick or prosect, I'm not willing to eat more than $1mm at most.
I can wait a year and buy him out if he can't rebound and get that level of cap help. |

ok so we're paying vinny a whole lot to be a 40 point player but how much is it worth to pay him to score 40 (or maybe 50-60) for another team? some bozo on csn is advocating taking anything (read: nothing + eat a bunch of salary) just to get out from the contract. not smart at all. next year, maybe because that would be when we REALLY need the money to pursue some FA's and some of the young guys are ready for the team to make a run for a couple years. i have no problem w/ a healthy vinny here this year if they are unable to make a good trade |

That's just dumb. If you can't make a deal, try to make it work. If it can't, then you consider a buyout after this upcoming season.

My only concern is that I think both Raffl and Umberger look better on the left side. I'm fairly curious about how Umberger plays next season. I know he can play the right side, but when I watched Columbus play, I always thought his game would look better on the left |
