The Sabres were bad last season, but what cemented them into last place was they essentially stopped playing for the first month and a half of the season. That's not going to happen this season. They're going to be a lottery pick. I'm not so sure they'll be dead last or even second last. As much as a non-believer I am in the notion that Ted Nolan is some sort of miracle worker, he definitely has the ability to get guys to want to take a bullet for him. That alone is good for at least an extra five or so wins that they have no business getting.

Agreed. I also think Stafford benefited from the same "Weber effect" that Weber himself did in 2013: where everybody else around him was so bad, and he had nowhere to go but up, which made him look better than he really was.

Regardless of how hard Nolan gets ppl to play there's still two major obstacles to overcome if we are gonna finish better than last place...

1) goaltending
I know some on here will say Miller is really just an average goalie & there won't be much of a dropoff with Enroth/Neuvirth...
I think that's nuts

2) scoring
How exactly are we better? Maybe a LITTLE... But not enough to matter, especially not considering we will let in more goals


Plus...
We were playing hard at the end of last season weren't we?
Our record was still brutal
Bc we couldn't score... And we couldn't stop pucks...
And I really don't see what's going to be so different?
