the padawan asked for my list of top ten players
I am listing them in order of who I would build a team around and their age is taken into account
1. stamkos ( agreed maybe crosby but it be a 1A , 1B )
2. crosby
3. toews ( agreed)
4. ovechkin ( you need to build around a center )
5. seguin ( Idk i really think he should be at around 10 and move kopitar up )
6. tavares ( I think he should be at 4 or 5 you build around a center not a wing - DD )
7. karlsson ( I like this pick but I think Patrice Bergeron should get some love yes he's 28 but that's still young)
8. giroux ( agreed)
9.kopitar ( should be moved up )

Do ppl really think those signings are gonna propel us to mediocrity?
I don't see why
All we really did was replace what we lost
We will still finish last in the league
I have NO doubt
We'll be way worse than mediocre - jdfitz77

For you guys wondering if Murray ruined the rebuild over the past week.
http://www.diebytheblade....to-finish-last-tim-murray - TheSabresTaco
I actually read some of the comments and they're pretty funny. A lot of them saying Armia doesn't have top 6 potential, and that they don't understand how we have anywhere close to the best prospect pool.
Some guy even said that he found a list of top 50 prospects where we had 3 players on it, and two of them were top 14 (it's hockey's future's list, not updated)
and called that "not very impressive". He went on to say "IDK how we are anywhere near the top…
Someone trying to give us hope?" |

Happy 4th.....Have fun and be safe!
Some thoughts around the pool & Bomb Fire today:
NHL will make sure someone like Toronto, Philly or Fla gets McDavid, Buffalo market is one of the top in the NHL. Look at the NBA, than look at the NHL lottery behind closed doors! Get McDavid out of your thoughts, there is a reason why the NHL is changing this up, don't fool yourself!
Now go get Bobby Ryan! |

They are changing it up so they have more choices to "award" the first pick. They give it to the Devils this year.
Was planning on Eichel anyways. Which means, got to finish last. |

Why do people point to the NBA, the league that rigged the Patrick Ewing lottery in plain sight, as the lottery model the NHL should follow? |

Who knows what will happen next year at the draft and where we will be slotted for our pick, too early to tell at this point. Bettman and company might have their own motives and I don't want to cast aspersions upon that line of thought but we will still get a very good young player next year. Murray is building the team his way and I like what he did this week as the rebuild moves forward. Whether we get McDavid, Eichel, Hanifin, Barzal or White/Zacha, it will be an excellent young kid who will be a strong asset for the hockey club for many years.

Drew Doughty? Honorable mention maybe.

Homie, stop arguing with everyone....
In for a quick flyby, but as I mentioned many moons ago, reaching the cap floor was never going to be an issue. Easy prediction to make, and thats without including an Ehrhoff buyout.
I raved about Murray's trade deadline results, and if anyone is questioning his ability to lead us into the future and rebuild this team correctly, you should be quickly hopping fence to the other side.
I will still maintain that this team will be one of the worst (bottom 3) in the NHL next season. We added quality veteran presence without significantly improving the team.
My predicted lineup (something tells me Murray might be looking to add another D):
Moulson - Ennis - Stafford
Hodgson - Reinhart - Gionta
Foligno - Girgensons - Stewart
Mitchell - McCormick - Deslauriers
Flynn
Kaleta
Meszaros - Myers
Gorges - Ristolainen
Weber - Pysyk
Ruhwedel
Enroth

That's actually a pretty decent roster. Though we're going to have work hard, play good defense, & get goals by committee.
We might not have superstars, but if we can eventually roll 3 lines of 20g scorers... We can be competitive.
Teddy Nolan as to whip these guys up into the best shape of their life. If they are the top physically conditioned team in the NHL, they can produce results by out working their opponents. |

A pretty decent roster? I think its a pretty bad roster. I probably dont even have the makeup correct either. Im pushing Reinhart into a top 6 role where I think he belongs, with sheltered minutes, but I dont think that will be reality.
I have big problems with your "play great defense" statement. In terms of possession numbers (yeah I know everyone hates Corsi and Fenwick), our team got worse defensively. We removed our best puck possession D in Ehrhoff and replaced him with possession black holes in Gorges and Meszaros (thats not to say I hate Gorges, hes just a defensive Dman who doesnt drive possession, and Meszaros is far from a significant upgrade over McBain). Gionta is pretty much in line with Leino (yeah he will definitely score more than Leino did over 3 years, but he'll also allow or be on the ice for more goals than Leino did too, it balances out to about equal). Moulson in Moulson. The key will be how well Reinhart adapts in his first season in the NHL. I would shelter his minutes on the defensive side so as to not overwhelm him. But overall, defense will still be an issue on this team. We're going to get used to seeing the 2 minutes straight in our zone again this year.
We are definitely still a get goals by committee team, but I dont see any real scoring depth on the team. I think throughout the season some lines will go through slumps so we'll be stagnant as a 1 scoring line team most of the season. Someone (deadhead?) a month or so ago did the math on our players averages at the time and predicted we would score a ton more goals than we did last year,. I gave a ton of flack saying those guys will not score that much, but Im okay with the increase in GF now. How much more? I think we finish in the 190-199 range.
Looking at the numbers for the goalies (differences between Miller and the 2 we are going with), combined with the projected drop in possession numbers, I'd say we give up about 20-30 more goals than last season too. |
