Leg wand would be a good 3rd line center - and as far as Lehner is concerned - 2 years $5 million
Mac - Turris - Stone
Hoffman - Zibby - Ryan
9MM - Legwand - chiasson
Greening - smith - Neil
Condra
That's a pretty decent forward group - a playoff group |

I take it your pretending just not to understand.
In the end it is the market that determines the value. A player is worth what the market actually pays. Spezza is worth what Dallas actually paid. You might disagree but that is reality.
Remember the original proposal was Smith, Greening and Lazar for Sharp. Nobody is going to include Lazar. Chicago wants a #3 center... Smith. They want cap saving so Greening at $2.5m does not help them. So, essentially your talking about Smith and Sharp being the core pieces of the deal. Fine you want add marginal sweeteners to make it look better. But the deal is essentially Sharp for Smith. - spatso
Your own first paragraph is undermining your post, Spats.
The point is that the market for Sharp would be far greater than that for Spezza.
We're talking about a guy who scored 34 goals and nearly a point per game last season, and is signed for the next three seasons at under 6 million dollars per.
Teams will fall all over themselves to get Sharp if he is on the market. Offers that would make Zack Smith+ look like a complete (frank)ing joke.
It just sounds absurd how much you're undervaluing Patrick Sharp. |

Would GM's not ever take time to speak privately with their prospects at a development camp?
I don't see why this would be unusual. |

i like the group...would make some slight line adjustments, but pretty good overall. lazar will be in there too.
i think ottawas playoff chances (honestly don't think they have much of one) will depend largely on the D rebounding, and VERY good goaltendig |

Cup have you heard anything more about the deal Murray said he was working on at the presser that the other team was stalling looking at prospects? |

Can we please resign Ryan ffs .Who the (frank) cares about a washed up star ,is this management group trying to have NO season ticket holders left????The ryan mac extensions should have been done before (frank)en july 1st.It would have at least gave the fans something positive to talk about |

I wonder if this is the case of Murray making a deal he can't actually make and then he'll announce he has a deal for Patrick Kane but it fell through because Kane has a no trade clause |
|
|

Oh no, not more Bobby Ryan trade rumors! You know how much he enjoys those. Just keep him away from alcohol and the golf course and everything should be fine. |

But Sharp is on the market and it has not coughed up anything. This is the same conversation as Spezza. Remember, it was said Murray does not have to hit a home run he just needs to market value.
You guys don't seem to take into account age or contract weight. I expect pretty soon Sather will start offering up Rick Nash and a bunch of you guys will start trying to push Lazar or Zibanejad out the door. Nash's contract gives him about the same value as LeCavalier on the open market.
Sharp is more attractive but unless your a team competing for a Cup $18m over three years is steep. I would do Sharp if the deal is good like Smith and some middle range prospects. I would not give up a top prospect for Sharp and I don't think the Sens will either. |

because one was an ijury prone player, on an expiring contract, coming off maybe his worst year as a pro, who demanded a trade.
the other just led one of the best teams in the league in scoring, is signed for 3 more years to a reasonable contract, and the hawks don't have to move him.
you can't possibly be this oblivious to what sharp's value is........can you? |

I am going to go with:
Sharp is a three year contract versus Spezza being a 1 year rental.
Sharp is much less of a health risk versus Spezza.
If he has to waive to come here, Sharp will want to be here, Spezza did not want to be here.
Sharp has won something (like a Cup) and knows what it takes to win, Spezza not so much.
Sharp is a lower cap hit.
Murray had one team to deal with, I am guessing interest in Sharp will be higher and will give the Hawks more options for all of the above reasons.
Do you need any more? |

Let it go spats i get what you are saying,Chicago,s target is and has been Zsmith, with us losing a center in spezza his value to the team is worth far more.Than what his precieved value is |

None of that gets fixed until ownership is able to make a commitment to the team. Some of the same donkeys giving me a hard time on market value of contracts today were giving a hard time last summer when I told you that Melnyk was in financial trouble (like broke) and it would impact on all aspects of the team.
These kind of financial problems have an incredible weight on the conduct of daily business. Best hope is recapitalization can be completed by new ownership sooner, rather than later. But everything that is happening was entirely predictable. |

I don't know what your friend knows and perhaps Ryan's attitude has changed now that he's getting married but when he was in Anaheim, he wanted to get PAID. I remember the acrimonious negotiations for his current contract, and with all the money that was just thrown around for a bunch of nobodies you can be sure he took note of it and had dollar signs in his eyes. Dollar dollar bills! |

I said Spezza would return a depth winger, 3rd line prospect and a mid draft pick (this is exactly the deal but with the guptill kid who was suspended by his college team twice - once for in game lack of effort yikes 0, so he's a throw in) and I got slagged by the posters here.
You're right, not a lot of teams are looking to add a $6 million dollar complimentary player - maybe if you are the NYI or Oilers but most other NHL teams don't want the contract for a player who is older then Spezza |

Is this you treating other posters with respect? Are people donkeys, stupid, dumb, etc because they disagree with you on getting Sharp for Smith straight up?
